Kdenlive worked great for me for the first three days I installed it. This morning I updated software using the Ubuntu Update Manager. After installing the software updates, any, and all video clips, regardless of the video format, freeze up and crashes Kdenlive as soon as the clips are dropped on the Kdenlive timeline.

I'm new to both Ubuntu and Kdenlive. I was impressed with both until today.

Update:

I have spent the last 5 hours re-installing Kdenlive. The program installs with no problems. But, every time I drag "any" video file, in any format onto the timeline, Kdenlive freezes up and stops working. I have tried .mov, mpeg 2, mpeg 4, and avi files from multiple sources. They all crash the program when added to the timeline.

I'm pretty frustrated, and about to try a different software.

Could you please tell us your (K)Ubuntu version? Also, do you use Ubuntu or Kubuntu? Do you install from the (K)Ubuntu repositories or do you use the kdenlive-stable or kdenlive-cvs repositories? Do you have an 32bit x86 installation or a 64bit installation?

My experience so far with the Kubuntu stock repos is that they contain broken versions. I never got them to run, but then I started afresh from a Kubuntu 11.10 beta 2 on 64bit. While not exactly stable, my experiences with the cvs repository so far were very good. See the posts about MLT problems in this forum to get information on how to switch to the other repositories for kdenlive.

Are you using kdenlive from ubuntus repositories or sunabs svn PPA. I'm finding svn with 11.10 Ubuntu unusable crashing moving the interface, with default proxy config, adding transitions etc within minutes of firing it up.

It'll settle down a bit no doubt with further updates.

Are you using proxys for your project, you could try switching them off and see if that helps.

Just to emphasize: I'm using *K*ubuntu 11.10 with svn repo and that works quite good!

I have tried all the solutions above. Nothing works. The software loads, and opens. No error messages. It just stalls and crashes every time I add a video clip to the time line.

I'm going to just for get it, and may try Kdenlive after the next build/release.

Very frustrating.
