Audio out of sync in proxy clip

Tue Nov 01, 2011 4:41 pm
I've just installed Kdenlive on Oneiric primarily for the ability to use proxy clips without having to do a separate encode and relink video files. I'm working with Canon .MOV files from a 60D, and I've been pulling my hair out trying to find a NLE option that won't crash every time I load three clips together.

So far, Kdenlive looks very nice. The proxy video has worked in the couple of tests I've done (especially at lower bitrates), but the problem is that the "Normal MPEG" encode options seem to lower the tone (i.e. the people speak with deep voices) and fall out of sync with the video.

I'm not an expert on encoding options, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have Canon 550D and use this for my proxies:

-f avi -acodec copy -vcodec mjpeg -s 960x540 -b 9000k

I've found that it's the video part of the file which requires proxies, the audio is already uncompressed PCM so found no need to compress it in the proxy file so I just copy it.

I haven't experienced any sync issues with audio to date.

Thanks a lot for your answer, Yellow.

As is often the case, the problem had nothing to do with the program itself and everything to do with how I had the program set up. I was running Kdenlive in VirtualBox on Windows 7. I noticed that the Ubuntu theme music on login was also slow, so I realized that it was a general problem with the installation. Installing Guest Additions solved the audio problem.

In any case, thanks for sharing your encoding settings for the Canon cameras. It's good to know that there's someone else around here using similar equipment, because I'm sure I'll have many more questions.
