Clip stutters on playback

Mon Nov 21, 2011 6:22 am
I've been using kdenlive for quite a while now and love th program. I recently upgraded camera and computer, however, and now my clips stutter and lag in playback.

The video plays fine. I've tried splitting the audio and video, but even the audio clip alone skips and repeats itself.

I shoot with a 60D at 1080p 29.97fps. I've tried setting the project profile to 1080 progressive ans interlaced at 30 fps also to no effect.

A number of the forum topics suggest removing Pulseaudio. I did that based on instructions here: http://www.jeffsplace.net/node/12. It had no effect.

I've tried using clips from desktop and from an external.

I'm using Kdenlive 0.7.7.1. Kdenlive 0.8.2 crashes when I try to open any clip.

Any thoughts?

My Specs:

Ubuntu 10.4
i7 2600 3.40 Ghz
12 gb RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB

Thanks in advance.

0.8.xx has introduced proxies. I'd suggest updating Ubuntu to 11.04 or even 11.10 and using 0.8.xx from sunabs PPA, stable or svn. There is a report in the Bug Reports forum here but I can't post a link, the spam filter on this site is stopping me. :-(

I use a Canon 550D and proxies is a very usable way of working to solve playback issues.

I second that. I just starting using Kdenlive. Although I can play HD video on my workstation just fine, I found that playback in Kdenlive wasn't so smooth. Proxies solved the problem.

I would love to just use proxies. But, as I said earlier, 0.8.2 crashes as soon as I try to open any clip. I've been trying for a few days to upgrade Ubuntu. 10.4 to 10.10 via the update manager crashed. 11.10 via Wubi stalls and crashes after about 2 minutes. 11.10 via install stall before even logging in.

So, is it possible to run 0.8.2 on Ubuntu and just figure out how to get it to sync up and stop lagging in playback?
