Hi all,
I have recently acquired a camera capable of recording 1080p and under. I was wondering with Kdenlive, what system requirements that I should opt for which would offer smooth live playback as I edit films. If you guys could post specific details as I'm looking to build a new computer Unless a 2.4ghz single core and 2gb of ram plus a 512mb radeon card is enough? I would even opt for 720p editing that's fine as well, but the playback (uncompressed outside of editing) is also a challenge. Any suggestions? |

Hi GreenAce92,
since Kdenlive supports proxies you may like the feature and let Kdenlive transcode your HD material to a lower resolution for editing with smooth seeking. So you are editing SD material and for rendering Kdenlive will use the HD material. This makes the hardware requirements quite low. A multicore CPU would be nice, the clocking will be most noticed while rendering (the higher, the better). 4GB of RAM should be fine. The graphic adapter is not used for anything special, unless you enable VDPAU for GPU acceleration for the preview window. I have never seen that and I cannot say, if it helps to avoid frame dropping when previewing clips with a lot of effects. So, finally - I guess - the graphic card does not have to be a high end card. You could even give your current system a try, but I would not expect a "wow!"-experience, especailly when it comes to HD rendering. |
