"Kdenlive 0.7.7.1 Debian packages are now available in Debian sid (unstable). Melt (MLT) is presently only available from Debian sid (unstable). Do not use Debian testing repositories, which offer older versions of Kdenlive. Debian packages are available for the following architectures: [alpha] [amd64] [arm] [armel] [hppa] [hurd-i386] [i386] [ia64] [kfreebsd-i386] [kfreebsd-amd64] [m68k] [mips] [mipsel] [powerpc] [s390] [sparc]:"

http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/pre-compiled-packages/debian-packages

i'm on debian testing and i just used apt-get to install kdenlive 0.8.2.1-1 from the testing repositories, so i believe this information is out of date

forgot to mention -- i also did not need to use debian-multimedia repository. it's not even in my sources.list file.

so yeah, basically all of that information may be out of date.
