Feed Live From Camera

Sun Mar 03, 2013 9:50 am
Hello,

I'm confused. Is Kdenlive a program for post-processing, or can I import my video live? I was looking at the light painting plugin (http://kdenlive.org/users/granjow/writing-light-graffiti-effect) and it's unclear to me how I can get my video into this software live to do the pixel manipulation. Will this process only work with a webcam?

I have a Cannon D5 Mark II which I saw is a supported camera.

Kdenlive is a program for post-processing (aka video editing) and I am pretty sure that you have to apply the light grafitti effect to pre-recorded footage. Not to a live feed.

I might be wrong but I don't think you can view a live feed in kdenlive.

If your camera outputs an image to the firewire in record standby, you can use Kdenlive to record a live feed - but it will not be possible to add effects in real time, only later, to the recorded footage.

Light grafitti is a Frei0r effect, so it could be available in some other host application, which is intended fot live VJ-ing, like Lives, FreeJ or similar.
