I want to be able to fix a point of reference on a moving object in a video and then have Kdenlive draw a line where that point of reference moves in a video. Watch this video as an example of exactly what I want to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmsCezzP-rw

Is this possible in Kdenlive?

The light graffiti effect comes to mind. It is probably not exactly what you are are after though.

Thanks, I'll check that out and see what I can do.

I am also very interested in achieving this using Kdenlive.

The Auto Mask is the solution to the problem of Motion Tracking and this video is a good tutorial on how to do it: https://youtu.be/U5xsknddF2E
However, I have yet found a solution to reproduce the line drawing segment... Would be grateful if someone could share that bit of missing knowledge.

For the record, another video where this Motion Tracking effect is very clearly seen being paired with the line drawing animation is: https://youtu.be/MkbPeSmJGI0?t=16m7s (starting point at instant 16:07).
