I have posted my question to the "Installation Forum"...maybe this was the wrong category.
Therefore here again..... We have worked the last 5 month (!!!) on a project. Length of the film is about 45 minutes. Today we have finished the work including titles, etc. We have than tried to render the film without any success (full film, 1 minute only, etc.). We have than shut-down the computer. Now we have restarted the computer and started kdenlive. Loading the project we get a crash of kdenlive. We need help to solve the problem - we cannot loose the work of 5 month! Thanks for your help.... A. Some details about our installation: Linux MINT 13 (64 bit) Kdenlive 0.9.6 MLT: 0.8.8 KDE: 4.8.5

This could be the issue described in this thread
viewtopic.php?f=272&t=111855#p269003 - for which there is a workaround mantis: http://www.kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=2592 http://www.kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=2609 |

Hi,
thanks you for the information. But, I can now not open the project. whenever I open Kdenlive it crashes. therefore I can not render the project without the titles? What can I do? Is there a possibility to render the project on the console and excuse the titles? Or a possibility for open the project without any crash? |

I have checked....unfortunately I have no
/usr/lib/frei0r-1/facebl0r.so /usr/lib/frei0r-1/facedetect.so files. Any other idea? |

Not really. What changed on your system recently? If it was me I would be saving the project file and source videos off somewhere and then restoring my system from the system images I take at semi regular intervals. And then trying again. Because this project file used to open right? |

I have done any changes on my system.
However, on the Kdenlive project has been worked every day. We have finished the project. Closed the project and next day open the project without any problem. Than we have inserted titles, and we tried to render the project. The rendering failed. Therefore we have closed the project and tried to reopen the project. Since than kdenlive crashes when open the project. Is very annoying to work over month on a project and now we can not do neither the rendering nor a modification of the project. If somebody has a solution or can help it would be great. Thanks.... |

I don't know anything about 'Mint' but is there any updates available?
I'm using:- :~$ kdenlive -version Qt: 4.8.1 KDE Development Platform: 4.8.5 (4.8.5) Kdenlive: 0.9.7 :~$ melt -version melt 0.9.1 It could be a corrupted Project File but hope not. My handy tip:- When I re-open any large Project for working on, I immediately open file > Save As and save it again with a new number at the end:- like 'Project name-01' and the next day 'Project name-02' and so on. If things go badly wrong I've always got an earlier copy to fall back on. Unfortunately that's no help for you at the moment. |

Other people awhile back reporting an "Exit 253" where first asked this:-
Can you play a file with it (from a terminal): melt myclip.dv The backtrace still says the problem is somewhere in MLT. Can you make sure you don't have several MLT versions installed: ls -la /usr/lib/libmlt* and that you don't have different versions of FFMpeg. That might also be caused by an incompatibility between your FFMpeg and MLT version, in which case it is a packaging or dependency issue, I cannot do anything on my side. Maybe try removing all MLT and Kdenlive packages and reinstall... |

alex00 - you work 5 months on a project and you have no backup strategy in place? Are you serious? You have not way of going back to a previously working version of your project file ? Let this be a lesson in basic computer maintenance techniques. Because it sounds to me that you now have a corrupted project file. And if you have no backups I think you could be pretty well - as they say - screwed.
I would recommend some sofware called "back in time". It backs up folders you specify on a regular basis but it only backups up changes. So you can use it to revert files to the state they were in at some point in the past. And because it backups changes only it does not waste too much file system space. Use something like this in combination with a RAID drive and you are pretty solid. |

ttyguy, and throw in at least two external hard disks with usb 3.0. This way, you can quickly backup your project even the first time and store it in some other place. A NAS is also only so safe...
I can also not understand why the thread starter has no backup plan in place for a project of the size he claims. This is irresponsible. Alas, he even did not check whether his OS installation took a hit? |

Hi,
yes I had a backup strategy. But opening the different backup file does not help or corrupted all the files. i am working with Linux now for more than 15 year - don't tell me anything about backup. The problem here is Kdenlive or one of the corresponding programs and not my backup strategy. However, thanks for your help:
Playing a file by
works. And:

ttguy - My thoughts exactly! and it had to be said.
Not so sure about backing up that way though. Does it back up your changes by over-writing your existing backups or does it save them as a separate copy? EDIT > Crossing posts.. Just seen alex00 post, so its not backups but another problem. Wish he had mentioned about backups before. What about the buildscript?

Thanks for your help. But form my point of view is it a little bit strange to be badmouthed when help is needed.

Hi alex00,
Sorry, no one's trying to be nasty. It's just if you had mentioned it was doing it to backups as well, it takes some of the pressure off it being a corrupted Project file. In your code above why do you have this:- kdenlive -version kdenlive: /usr/lib/libmlt.so.5: no version information available (required by kdenlive) kdenlive: /usr/lib/libmlt++.so.3: no version information available (required by kdenlive) I do not. There seems something wrong there. If it was me, I would remove all of Kdenlive and all melt libs etc and re-install. |

I have moved kdenlive, mlt and all mltlibs.
After installing all new, I get still the same message. |
