I was told that Kdenlive might work.
I bought a Sony HDR-CX220 camera this week. I can not install Windows software for it. I thought maybe some version of Linux could allow me to copy movies and jpegs to my hard drive via the USB port. I current have OpenSuse, Ubuntu, Slacko Puppy, and Mageia Best regards, Andy |

If I understand the rather cryptic question correctly, the the OP expects a nonlinear video editor such as Kdenlive to be file manager for copying video and image files. I too have problems understanding this. I would suspect that Kdenlive is not part of the solution, sounds like a driver problem for some non-standard Sony device.

If you want a more complete answer, please state more exactly what you already tried and what happened.
I'm working on the KDevelop IDE.

According to the specs USB is mass-storage device. If that is correct then you should simply be able to plug in the device mount it and copy the files from it. mass-storage is a generale system used by multiple storage devices. Drivers are already in the kernel in linux for mass storage. Plug it in and it should come up as a drive If not and it does need specific drivers, your options are to use a card with a card reader, but from the specs, it should work. Kdenlive is for video editing, not copying files from cameras. |

There actually may be problems with the MTP functionality, as some Linux distros have problems with correctly handling MTP devices.
