Shouldn't kdelibs5-plugins be in the dependencies?

Glad you're got it going!

I actually still use Gnome Classic but if I am going to use any software built around KDE, I take the lazy man's route out and from synaptic I install KDE-full so I've never experienced this problem.

Unless, of course, this is something new. Will remember this, just in case.

I used Unity desktop and it had kdelibs-bin installed but I learned (the hard way!) kdelibs5-plugins are needed too!

I solved same problem (and notext on menu labels) with:
sudo apt-get install kde-runtime
