hello
i have a problem for editing with kdelive 0.9.6 i'm using two .mts clip. a big one (2go) and a smaller one (500mo) when i change the cursor on the bigger clip on the timeline the monitor project doesn't show the corresponding image but just continue showing the next image of the clip as if i didn't change the position at all. so wherever i jump on the timeline, the monitor isn't following, it reacts as if i changed the position but just to the next image of the clip. so i can't watch the moment i want to work with, i'm stuck in the beggining and basically i can't do the editing. on the other end with the smaller clip on the same timeline everything is normal, it's really odd. if anyone understands this, any help would be appreciated |

In a first step you could try to use proxy clips and choose a well seekable video codec (e.g. mpg2). If that does not work, you should consider to upgrade - 0.9.6. has been released 2 years ago.

Hi,
I've got the same problem with Kdenlive 0.9.10 (UbuntuStudio 15.04 amd_64.) On small clip: Moving timeline cursor updates monitor immediately, but with next video frame (where ever I seek ). On large clip (camcorder split files to 2GB): - moving timeline cursor in the beginning of the clip is quite quick. - moving timeline cursor in end of the clip is very long (several minutes), with huge CPU consumption. --> I guess Kdenlive reads the file back from the beginning to seek good position because response time is proportional to time I seek. MTS files from Sony Handycam HDR-CX740. Mediainfo output for large file:

In fact, there are two different problems.
One solved by proxy clips (performance on HD video) One not solved: sometimes, a clip is wrongly played (in Project Monitor and in Clip Monitor). Kdenlive displays an image from the clip, and what ever you move within the clip, the next image is displayed: you can go forward+back+forward+back and so on, and displayed clip plays as if you always go forward. |

Please consider uprading to a recent Kdenlive as well as MLT. It is difficult to help with aged setups. The problem may still be present, but developers are more willing to help when tested on a recent version.

Agreed!
But my Kdenlive is 0.9.10 and melt 0.9.3. It that right? Trying to update Kdenlive, https://kdenlive.org/download-kdenlive-0 links to sourceforge with 0.8.2.1.tar.gz old version. and for Ubuntu to https://kdenlive.org/user-manual/downlo ... u-packages with Kdenlive 0.9.2 and MLT 0.8.2. |

The most recent "stable" Kdenlive branch is 15.08; Ubuntu repositories lag behind. MLT currently is at 0.9.8. The sources for Kdenlive are now distributed via the KDE Git repositories. Please head over to https://community.kde.org/Kdenlive/Development/KF5 for details where to get MLT and Kdenlive, and how to compile them. I've successfully compiled on a Kubuntu 15.04 64bit installation.
One important note, however: the instructions linked above tell you to clone the Kdenlive git repository. This is a necessary step; however, it will at the same time check out the main development branch. Usually, you want rather to use a stable branch, such as "Applications/15.04" or "Applications/15.08" (these are the two main stable releases of Kdenlive for KF5/KDE 5). So after

Thanks TheDiveO for your help.
Unfortunately, building Kdenlive is not really "plug & play", and I would not like to break my system configuration with dependencies.
