Trying to save title's

Tue Aug 25, 2015 8:41 pm
Running Ubuntu-MATE 15.04

So I need to create a few titles that can be used on multiple project. Trouble is I cannot save the ones I've created. I get this error

Error: Cannot write to file /home/mark/kdenlive/titles/

Is this a permissions issue? or something else?

thanks.

Looks like you didn't enter a name for the title. "/home/mark/kdenlive/titles/" is a directory.

Go the same error, this time it just added the name I's added.

Cannot write to file /home/mark/kdenlive/titles/test

Seems like I should be adding a file extension, if that's the case it needs to be made clearer. Also what extension do I add?

You don't need to use the extension. That is done automatically, in case you select the box "Automatically select filename extension". If not, then use the extension ".kdenlivetitle".

So, I suspect there may be something wrong with permissions here. What you could do is open a terminal (or konsole) and enter the following command:

ls -la /home/mark/kdenlive/titles/

On my system the output is like this:

total 4
drwxr-xr-x 2 rene users 31 26.08.2015 19:26 ./
drwxr-xr-x 9 rene users 111 23.08.2015 09:17 ../
-rw-r--r-- 1 rene users 553 26.08.2015 19:26 test.kdenlivetitle

If you get errors while executing this command then please post what you see. Or better: post the output anyway.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem under the latest Ubuntu distribution.

The output of the suggested command is:
"
total 8
drwxrwxrwx 2 thibault thibault 4096 août 24 18:40 .
drwxrwxrwx 6 thibault thibault 4096 août 24 18:43 ..
"

I tried to run kdenlive as root, gave all everyones the permission to this folder, still unable to save titles which is a big problem since you always have to recreate the titles from the beginning....

tpflug, the permissions can't be the cause of the error in your case, they are okay (read/write/execute on both user, group and others). I'm gonna try to replicate the problem in a VM. What is the "latest Ubuntu distribution" you are referring to, 15.04 Desktop? 32 or 64 bits? And which version of kdenlive?

Yes, excuse me for the lack of details:
the Ubuntu version is 15.04, 32 bits
the kdenlive version is 15.07.0. I tried both normal and developper version...

I suspect that following piece of code is involved, but I dont have any details:
" if (!url.isEmpty()) {
if (m_titledocument.saveDocument(url, m_startViewport, m_endViewport, GenTime(m_tc.getFrameCount(title_duration->text(), m_render->fps()), m_render->fps()).ms()) == false)
KMessageBox::error(this, i18n("Cannot write to file %1", url.path()));"

AND THANKS FOR YOUR AMAZING REACTIVTY AND TIME

Could you run the Config Wizard (from the Settings menu), un-check "Activate crash recovery (auto save)" and try again? (After testing, don't forget to re-enable it.)

So far, I haven't been able to replicate the error. Have you tried to upgrade to 15.08?

Try running Kdenlive from the command line to see if it spits out anything useful.

That sucks....

Try to manually create a file in ' /home/mark/kdenlive/titles/' from the command line.

Are you running a 32b O/S. From your note it seems as though you are. If so, do you have to?

Try creating a new user and then run kdenlive under that account.

I'm also having the same issue trying to save a title. I used to be able to, then suddenly I got the same error (in the same session where I saved one)...

There also is another topic thread that says you need to install kded, but that didn't work for me. (I have kded4 and kded5 installed)
