hello,

i have difficulties finding the right settings when rendering my project for vimeo.

my original file is - 1920X1080 - 30 fps - IPB - .MOV
when i import the .mov to kdenlive, the profile is set automatically to HDV - 1440X1080i - 29.97 fps

from 1920 to 1440, don't i lose resolution ?

Seems as if HDV is the wrong profile and accidently recognized by kdenlive.

Check the output of ffprobe <yourfile>. If that gives 1920x1080 progressive, choose the correct profile. When importing files, do not kdenlive let change the project settings. For youtube and vimeo always render progressive output - either by choosing an appropriate profile or setting the render option from automatic to progressive.

did some tests and here's what i got:

TEST 1 (with error message on vimeo)

project settings
profile: HDV 1440x1080i 29.97fps

render options:
MPEG-2 - MPEG-2 (CBR)
scanning: auto
video bitrate: 8000
audio bitrate: 192

ffprobe gives me:

MPEG-2 - MPEG-2 (CBR)
scanning: force progressive
video bitrate: 8000
audio bitrate: 192

ffprobe gives me:

Stream #0:1[0x1c0]: Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16p, 192 kb/s

results on vimeo:
- i DON’T get the error message telling me that my video is interlaced, and that the video does not use square pixels.
- vimeo still tells me that the video contains unknown colour properties - my video is in greyscale, that’s probably the only reason... or ?

conclusion

test 2 profile respects the resolution of the original .MOV file from the camera. and i see a difference in the sharpness of the images on screen.
seems to be the right one. don't know why kdenlive imported my original with test 1 settings. i also changed my general preferences to HD 1080p - 30fps.

other suggestions ?
