Record ffmpeg command line

Wed Nov 04, 2015 5:04 pm
Hi there,

I am a new user. My project is to record S-VHS with USB Dazzle DVC100 for video and direct audio into mobo.
Question:
Is it possible to record with my ffmpeg command line for the input streams and output encoding streams, removing any other?
If possible where to past the command?
Are there limitations on the codec, quality, etc...

Thanks for your help.

Edit: Where can I find the debug output from ffmpeg

Yes, I'm sure it's possible, but it has been a long time since I've done it, you probably just want to google for that in general, maybe ffmpeg capture v4l2 - https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Capture/Webcam seems to be about right, it isn't actually webcam specific, any v4l2 device should work, if your device isn't recognised though the v4l2 framework, you may be out of luck, at least on Linux.

ffmpeg won't care what you encode it to.

You get the debug output by adding a -v option for selecting the level of verbosity.

e.g. ffmpeg -v debug

Although you probably want verbosity level: verbose as debug is cray. you can get a list of the levels of verbosity with ffmpeg -v help
