Is there anyway of adding text to the same slide, in stages?

Yes, just add each title track as you would a video track, with affine to the lowest video track in your timeline. Here's an example I just published. The opening sequence is 5 video tracks total. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M87oGaqaSk

Could you point me to a guideline please? |

Here's a very simple example I just whipped up for you.
http://s829.photobucket.com/user/zerofo ... 5.png.html My main video track is at the bottom. Each title track appears in succession on top of the main video track SO LONG AS you remember to Affine each title track to the bottom video track as shown, in my case video track 4. Affine defaults to Auto which does not align to the last video track and is a bit of a PITA. I sometimes forget and scratch my head a bit wondering where it went?

Translation: RTFM?
Why affine to an empty video track, though? It seems to work fine pointing to the base track. I guess I'll have to give it a try and see. |

There's a good reason to actually use the transition for composition with an empty track below all other tracks -- but not MLT's built-in black track. http://thediveo-e.blogspot.de/2014/07/k ... art-3.html

Thank you for sharing that. I confess, I still do not understand why pointing the transition to the lowest actual video track as I have been doing is not sufficient. I'll just have to play around with it and see if the outputs differ.

zerofossilfuel: correct, in your particular case pointing the transition to the lowest actual video track is already sufficient.
What ttguy and I are pointing at becomes necessary as soon as you need multiple "actual" video tracks with cross-fades or something like that. Then during the cross-fade section ... to which video track do you point your other transitions to? Instead of needing the put cuts on the transitions on the tracks above, simply let them point to an empty track below all your video tracks. Plain and simple ... yet far from obvious. If you are going to do more projects with Kdenlive with more complex timeline "clip towers" then at one point you'll probably switch over and then simply stick with the trick mentioned by ttguy. Because it's so universal. |

Yes, it has not been a problem for me to date. My transitions always occur between the two video tracks, applied to the higher track and are therefore still above the lowest video track, so I never lose the effect even during the transition. I can see if I needed a transition applied to the lower track why the empty track would be useful. I just don't see why I'd ever need to apply the transition to the lowest video track.

There are some situations in which compositing with the lowest track even if it is temporarily empty does not work correctly. Unfortunately, I don't remember yet the reason why; I had tried in one or two of my projects to get rid off of the empty track but then noticed that the final result wasn't as intended. So I always throw in the track and never worry about track optimization anymore.
Real world example explained using multiple video tracks with dissolve and several other clips layered on top of this: http://thediveo-e.blogspot.de/2016/01/t ... nlive.html You can do this without the empty track trick. But if you later need an additional video track, you need to revisit all transitions. With the empty track, simply insert another video track. Well, the empty track may sometimes be even not-so-empty.

I now remembered the reason for using an empty track: technically, it's not necessary. It rather comes in really useful in case during edit you notice at some point that you need a further video track. Without the empty track you need to revisit all your transitions after you've added the new bottom track, and adjusting them as required. With the empty track you simple insert the additional video track and you're already done. So, no technical reasons, just process.
