Hi there with another script and workflow question:
i m working on a larger film project and i basically have a kdenlive session for each scene and make a script each. Then I have a "Master session" where i put all the mlt files together to render the final movie which is like 60 minutes... I would love to have multiple audio tracks in the final session somehow , to then import into ardour/mixbus to do the sound editing and sound design.. is this somehow possible? till now all sound tracks appear just as one track embedded in the video file / mlt script i import in the master... hope this was clear and hoping for a workflow advice |

Hmm, never tried it, the mlt files you pop into your final master session, do you get to pick audio index from their properties? If you do, then you may be able to drop the mlt files onto the timeline and then split the audio out or something? I don't have it in front of me, just some ideas. I might do a little testing after work if I find the time, because that's an interesting question. |

i tried and i can split off the audio track with split audio like from a normal video file, but it wont expand into multiple wav files but just one,
so while working i found that this workflow for handling big projects is not really useful for me unfortunately... ;( and i wonder again about how to handle a 60 minutes project with a lot of clips... ;( EDIT: and i checked, when i open the properties of the mlt clip, there s no info on it |

Yep, you'd have to stem export or render out each audio track separately. Ah well :/ |

Yes, this is also the conclusion I came to while working on a long documentary
Usually what I would do is export all the tracks from Scene.kdenlive, do any fine editing and mixing required in Audacity, and export three stems from there: Dialogue, Effects, and Music. (see my related forum post about this) Then, when importing Scene.kdenlive into the MainProject.kdenlive sequence, I would align the three clips with it in the timeline, giving me a tiny bit of flexibility to make some small changes if I need to (not at all ideal, I know). Two other problems with this workflow are that it can lead to sync errors (it did for me!) and that it's complicated if you want to fade sound in or out into the surrounding scenes - i.e. when the audio is longer than the video, which it usually is. Unfortunately the audio mix is where kdenlive's method of nesting sequences really falls to pieces.

Thanks for your feedback guys!!
yeah i m a bit desperate.. not sure how i ll continue.. for making one huge project i think my computer might collapse, even with proxy files (im on an "old" i5 with 9gb ram) so i might try to export the sound tracks seperate and add the mlt sessions on top.. but not sure.. I also thought about alternatives like lightworks, but this still seems to not be stable (and only works with proprietary drivers, which usually perform worse than the linux drivers on my box..) |
