afaik it s not possible to import exchange formats by kdenlive , but i m also not sure if i understood your question completely.
actually this would be for me the greates feature: to get my kdenlive session into Ardour like you can put a avid/final cut session into protools via omf/aaf export.. Maybe if someone of the developers can convince aatranslator (http://www.aatranslator.com.au/ works smooth in wine...) to support kdenlive?? :):) |

Yes it would be great to have some kind of interchange between Kdenlive and Ardour for 'audio finishing'. Mind you I don't think Ardour supports AAF, XML, or OMF so it could be tricky.
In many ways I would prefer it if the audio features of Kdenlive could evolve to enable more advanced audio mixing/finishing such as is possible in Premiere Pro. Support for LV2 plugins would help I think, but also some means to apply effects to the stereo mix-I don't think that is possible yet, but perhaps I have missed it!? |

Hello,
During last Kdenlive Café (monthly IRC meeting), we agreed that we should be able to introduce 1 or 2 new features in every release (every 4 months), and proper audio mixer is one of the top expectations. So maybe in Kdenlive 16.12 or 17.04?? For the moment, Kdenlive renderer has a "stem audio export" option (in advanced settings) that allows to export every track in separate WAV, to allow sound mixing in external application, finally merged with eg ffmpeg (not convenient, but not impossible). But of course it will be better to have synchronous video display during this phase... |

@ brodie but there are still ways to get aaf/ omfs into ardour or mixbus via ardourxchange and aatranslator and they even started to support natively the import of protools files.. so there should be ways to do it. This for me is the only thing that is missing to obtain a pro-grade workflow, where you often send data around and you need the interchange formats. aaf and omf is afaik much hassle to work with and not totally open formats, that every software interprets in a slightly different way...
but best way would be to ask in the ardour community what they think is the easiest way to obtain that... if you guys want i can make a post there, although i m not a programmer and cant go much into depth on this field.... |

EDL import/export would be a very nice feature, because it will let several apps use Kdenlive generated projects and allow for color grading Kdenlive projects in Davinci and through Blender the sound of Kdenlive projects could be edited in Ardour.
Current EDL status on various open or closed free applications: Shotcut supports EDL export(js): https://forum.shotcut.org/t/mlt2edl-scr ... -fix/55/28 Flowblade will soon support EDL export(py): https://github.com/jliljebl/flowblade/issues/252 Natron(VFX) might support EDL import: https://github.com/MrKepzie/Natron/issues/1170 Blender supports EDL import(py): https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Exte ... EDL_Import Blender supports Ardour export(py): http://blendervelvets.org/en/blue-velvet/ Davinci supports EDL import/export. |

Nice, I had no idea blender supports ardour export!
EDL sounds like a really good option, though i mentioned the thread here in the ardour forum and want to copy one comment from seablade: n before paul or x42... https://xkcd.com/927/ As a serious response to calimerox though, why wouldn't that format just be Ardour's session format? It is open, XML, and not the most difficult to understand, though many things in it are measured by audio samples IIRC which is far more accurate than many video editors. Personally I have toyed around with seeing if i can write a plugin for Lightworks to do exactly this honestly rather than deal with AAF or OMF. Seablade |

I wasn't aware of this feature so many thanks for pointing it out. I had considered exporting all the tracks individually as the best solution so this is excellent, Thanks! |

FCPXML exchange format (or at least, Final Cut Pro 7 format) can open the doors to the very nice post-production middlewares program like Vordio, which works with REAPER DAW (for which a linux version is available in beta for now).
Vordio | Audio post production workflow reimagined. Building tools for faster sound editing. Because this XML exchange format has a lot of metadata, it allows advanced features like Reconform for REAPER. AAF is not very good because there is a lot of variation around the standard. And just like EEL, it doesn't contains a lot of metadata. Here is a post from Vordio's developer : Gearslutz Pro Audio Community - View Single Post - Tips for first time foley artist.. Maybe these formats can be read by other open source softwares mentioned above ? Not that AAtranslator has support for them. As kdenlive file format is also XML, a solution could be develop as a third party app/script project converter (maybe it is easier than adding the export feature directly in the program). Just my two cents of the exchange format possibility. |
