Editing 4K video is a real pain using Kdenlive since it is so choppy. I'm currently using Shotcut since it is able to play 4K smoothly. Does anybody know if Kdenlive will get as good performance soon (GPU decoding)?

In the configuration, check the playback area. Did you enable "Use GPU processing"?

go in the main menu Settings/Configure Kdenlive then click Playback.
Enable "Use GPU processing (Movit library)" Video of steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47maykCIo5w Alternatively, consider using proxy clips, see https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manua ... roxy_clips Does the GPU work for you? |

Enabling it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Here's what ffprobe shows me about the video file.
Here's the terminal output of kdenlive

I think this here explains what the problem is:
https://www.mltframework.org/faq/#why-d ... ia-players The following does not print anything to terminal. Any Ideas on how I could compile mlt with vdpau support?

the same on my PC
kdenlive 16.12 opensuse 42.2 it's interesting that kdenlive uses only 1 core (1 thread ?) on my older system> kdenlive 0.9.10 opensuse 13.2 it uses all the cores (8) and with the htop i could see at least 8 threads |
