Hi!
First of all I'd like to thank everyone involved developing Kdenlive, I'm very impressed what it can do. I'm experimenting with Kdenlive Windows-version 16.12.1 and I'm trying to import P2-material that I shot with Panasonic PX-270 camera. Kdenlive imports video track just fine (although import is very slow and the playback is very sluggish before transcoding to DNxHD) but it doesn't import audio track at all. I have to import audio track and sync it manually with video track. Does anyone know if there is a way import P2-material with video and audio synced? |

The windows version is still an alpha release so it still has some issues. Could you provide a short sample file for me to test so we see if it happens across all systems?

Farid, I sent you PM with link to P2 MXF-clip.
By the way, when I'm trying to transcode those clips to DNxHD 1080p 25fps 120 Mb/s all I got is error message: "Failed to create file" and log with following message:
Original material is 10-bit MXF and DNxHD 120 is 8-bit as far as I know so could it be the problem? |

I get the same error @ 120 but trying 185 worked fine. |

Yes, the transcode fails because the decode output is 10-bit and the DNxHD encoder therefore defaults to pix_fmt yuv422p10le (when no pix_fmt is specified) but finds the 120 Mbps bitrate incompatible with that. All you need to do is to go into Settings> Configure KDenLive> Transcode and modify the "DNxHD 1080p 25 fps 120 Mb/s" transcode profile so that the (8bit) pix_fmt yuv422p is specified, like so: After making the change, click Update Profile and then Apply to save it. You should now be able to transcode your 10-bit P2-MXF (AVC High 4:2:2 Intra) source to 8-bit DNxHD (120Mbps). I Just checked it out with 10-bit XAVC.mxf clip and it worked fine. The reason the 185Mbps DNxHD transcode works, as Farid reported, is because 185Mbps is compatible with pix_fmt yuv422p10le. So in that case the transcode will be 10-bit DNxHD. If you wanted 8-bit DNxHD at the 185Mbps bitrate, you would likewise need to modify the profile, adding the -pix_fmt yuv422p specification. |

.....how are you importing the audio track separately - are you demuxing and transcoding the audio in another system ? |

Thanks a lot for your help Inapickle! Added -pix_fmt yuv422p to profile and now transcoding to DNxHD 120 works perfectly!
And about the audio issue. Audio is recorder at 48khz/24bit to four channels and audio is not muxed to video. Footage in P2-card is located in their own folders, audio in its own folder, video on it's own etc. There's a .XML-files in the CLIP folder and I'm wondering if those XML's are used to tell editing software where to find related audio and video files and how to pair them? Heres a sample of one of those .XML's

Ah, OK, I see what you mean now. I didn't realize the video and audio streams are separate. Yes, I think you are probably right about the purpose of the xml files. So evidently KDenLive can't itself 'read' the P2 folder directory . However, I've read where people have used ffmpeg or ffmbc for converting P2 material to editable formats, and (from a cursory web search) I came across a method for "making files from P2 cards readable by ffmpeg" using a utility called mxflib, as described on this page: http://www.g-raffa.eu/Cinelerra/HOWTO/g ... _by_ffmpeg If it works as described with your px270 P2 folders, what you should end up with is a folder (GoodMXF) with your muxed video/audio files in mxf format. You said that you were able to import the video and audio files separately so I can't imagine there being an issue with the muxed mxf files either. I've had no problem importing native UHD mxf clips from a Canon XC10 camcorder into KdenLive - that's 8-bit High 4:2:2 Intra@L5.1 ('Canon XF-AVC Intra') with 2 channel 16-bit, 48KHz PCM audio, as well as 10-bit XAVC mxf transcodes (Adobe Media Encoder). I'm just wondering how KDenLive deals with 24-bit/48KHz audio - does it convert to 16-bit, and likewise what happens when you transcode to DNxHD ? There again, seeing that you are using the Windows version of KDenLive, maybe look at one of the P2 MXF conversion apps out there for Windows. PavTube MXF Converter seems to be one well recommended: http://www.pavtube.com/guide/convert-tr ... ndows.html Probably the least fuss solution. Best I can suggest anyway, not having experience with the P2 format myself. |

Hope it works for you. It's not altogether clear from the guide on the product page whether it actually 'reads' P2 folders (pulling together the video and audio streams from their respective folders) or whether it is simply a transcoder for already muxed mxf files.
Edit: I wonder, does Panasonic's own 'P2 Viewer Plus' utility not give the option to 'extract' the muxed mxf clips ? http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/sales_o/p2/p2viewerplus/ It mentions there "Supports selected clips copy function" |
