Hi,

I'm on a fresh Fedora 27 install, Kdenlive 17.08.1, MLT 6.4.1 and GPU acceleration is greyed out... I'm not sure where to go from here. I've been using Kdenlive for years and never just hit a wall like this. Nvidia 950 graphics card, latest driver from Nvidia and the 'nvidia-settings' tool shows OpenGL functioning. Blender seems to render OpenGL fine.

The Kdenlive configuration wizard shows the versions mentioned above, says "Codecs have been updated, everything seems fine" and there is no relevant messages in the shell if I launch and monitor it there. In the past if there was a problem the config wizard would give a good hint about it.

Is there a way to test the packages to see what's missing, what package may have incorrect library or built without some required support, or? I've got the distro's Movit, Rtaudio, MLT, etc updated to the latest versions.

Thanks!

I have tried all sorts of things and can't get the GPU acceleration to work.

I tried building MLT and MOVIT from source, latest RPM versions, and latest GIT pulls. They seem to build OK, using the build arguments stated as requirements for kdenlive (opengl, etc). kdenlive crashes - won't start. Tried GPL2 vs GPL3 options in MLT - no change, kdenlive crashes.

Then a couple days ago a Kdenlive upgrade came in from RPM Fusion repo to v17.12.xx version - no change in any behavior.

Tried switching repo from Fusion to to UnitedRPMs - this caused update to kdenlive, MLT and a lot of associated multimedia libraries.... no change, the GPU is still greyed out.

Tried again with latest builds of MLT and MOVIT from source - kdenlive still crashes. The latest build of MLT is what is crashing kdenlive after some trial and error. Using just the latest MLT from source didn't help the GPU option.

I tried running Gnome desktop, Gnome on Xorg, and Cinnamon - no change in behavior.

Any suggestions? How can I get an idea of why kdenlive isn't seeing the GPU?

I would also like to use GPU for rendering, but no luck until now.

Does anyone have any thoughts how to further troubleshoot this? I opened a bug report with the repo that hosts Kdenlive for Fedora, but no responses yet to that.

It looks like it was a bad MLT build/version. I installed an update that was released today and it works!

Upgraded mlt-1:6.4.1-9.fc27.x86_64 @unitedrpms
Upgrade 1:6.6.0-1.fc27.x86_64 @unitedrpms
Upgraded mlt-freeworld-1:6.4.1-9.fc27.x86_64 @unitedrpms
Upgrade 1:6.6.0-1.fc27.x86_64 @unitedrpms

Full GPU acceleration.

Hi

The GPU acceleration works fine on my system (by default). My version 17.08.3.

I have found that when you have started a new or old project, you CAN'T activate the GPU acceleration. But close kdenlive, and the first thing you do is go to setting and activate the GPU acceleration and save changes. You are now ready to use the GPU effects.

On a note, I found on my setup that the GPU acceleration is not working very well. The image and sound are out of sync, and the live rendering is not very god (might be do to my old GPU AMD R6770?).

PS: I did not install MOVIT or any other libraries, it just worked "out if the box".
