I did not see a function to record voiceovers in kdenlive. Recording them separately with other programs makes it really difficult to match the required length and the timing, e.g. to comment what one would actually see in that moment.

What would be the best/recommended way to record voiceovers?

Nope, this does not work (anymore).

Even if turning video off, kdenlive insists on recording video and aborts if there is no video device.
