No scaling with threads in Windows?

Sun Sep 30, 2018 12:08 pm
Hi,

Recently upgraded to a 2950x (16 cores, 32 threads), and preview/render barely seem to use a couple, even when set to 32 threads in settings. No reason that a 1080p60 mp4 with a single color curve on it should be chugging in preview on 32 threads, so wondering if it's a bug?

Thanks,

Hello,
Unfortunately splitting the video processing is not so easy (and not being much worked on in MLT at the moment),
moreover the video effects (coming from various 3rd party libraries) are not all the same quality & are not all thread-safe.
Having more than 2 or 4 processing threads (+4 encoding threads in case of export rendering) dosen't help much :(
This could evolve if MLT got more manpower, but developpers with the required skills are not easily available...
