Strange track assign behavior

Sun Jun 16, 2019 4:24 am
1) I create three audio and video tracks.
V1+A1,V2+A2,V3+A3
2) I drag a video clip I added to the V1 field.
The video goes to V1 and the audio goes to A1 correctly.
3) I then drag another video to V2 field.
This time it places the video in V2, but the audio in A3.

This gets even weirder if I add more tracks with A1 automatically becoming A4 which is the audio of V1.

Kdenlive seems not to stick to V1 / A1..Vn/An as pairs and starts randomly switching audio and video tracks to seemingly arbitrary video and audio tracks.

This automatic scrambling cannot be serving any purpose.
Is there something I am missing ? as this makes working with kdenlive unmanageable.

I am usiong latest apimage./ Linux version 4.19.0-1-amd64 (stevep@mxlinux.org) (gcc version 6.3.0 20170516 (Debian 6.3.0-18+deb9u1)) #1 SMP Debian 4.19.5-2~mx17+1 (2018-12-12)

Current Kdenlive AppImage version is 19.04.2d https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/.

Top of the timeline most left icon, check if you have "split audio tracks" enabled. "Mixed audio tracks" is not properly working.

Split-Tracks doesnt work, when I add a clip and then drag it down to the tracks it will e.g. place the video in Videotrack-1 but the audio in AudioTrack-2. That creates a lot of confusion which belongs to which. All I can do is to ungroup the clips and then attempt to move the audio to its proper place. But for that i ave to create extra free tracks as a buffer to switch tracks around.

This is not happening to me.. V1 V2 V3 A1 A2 A3... i can place a video on V1 (audio in A1) .. and a Video on V2 A2 and video on V3 A3 (splitting... or using different videos)
(i'm using latest build for Windows)

BTW... i suggest to Jean Batiste to add a button/option to INVERT the audio track positions... from A1 A2 A3 to A3 A2 A1 ... because on complicated projects is better to see Video and Audio tracks NOT REVERSED. ( https://phabricator.kde.org/T11116 )

If you are on Linux please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 19.04.2e to see if there are any packaging issues https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/

Ones started click on Help -> reset configuration. Try again.

If the problem/issue doesn't occur when using the AppImage, then it's your configuration or packaging.

I use an appimage so I dont know what could be amiss with my config during installation.

kdenlive does strange things assigning tracks and it does it repeatably.

New tracks are also scrambled with audio and video separated far apart which is illogical.
See the video.
I took an arbitrary video off youtube so that I dont use my own videos, so it cannot be the problem.
see http://grossmann-venter.com/visitors/ug ... ssue01.mp4

As you can see audio and video tracks are split to completely unrelated channels.
Then if I move them to another av group of tracks, the video is dropped completely and only audio remains.
Just not supposed to happen.

Aah. Thanks for the video. Now it's clear what you mean. I'll test and open a bug for this. Coming back.

How do you manage that A1 is on-top?

Workaround change to "split audio tracks".

It happens automatically. Especially if you started out with two default tracks and then add say two more. Then everything gets scrambled up. If you delete those two tracks again then it remains messed up.

Request: On another topic, please consider to replace delete clip with remove clip.
Delete clip usually means destruction of the origin.
Since there is an ADD Clip action the opposite would be Remove clip not Delete Clip.
Create Clip goes with Delete Clip, while Add Clip goes with Remove Clip.
I wasnt sure if it actually destroy the source, since Delete was used, so I had to do tests to see what is deleted.
It creates confusion. If it was called remove clip clearly it would not mean delete the origin.

Thank you for reporting. Confirmed. I opened issue: https://invent.kde.org/kde/kdenlive/issues/269.

Do you mean: right click on a clip In the project bin -> delete clip?
