Are there any experts out there who could show us how to recreate certain types of special effects that you might have seen in a movie/TV?
I've watched a few videos from Cinecom.net's YouTube channel - especially their CopyCat Friday videos... https://www.youtube.com/user/YapperDesi ... ry=copycat .....but a lot is done in After Effects and Premier Pro Is there a Kdenlive equivalent for most of the Premier Pro tools? If somebody could teach / show us how to do some of the same stuff, we could make some cool Kdenlive how-to videos (albeit on a smaller budget). Happy to help create / edit. For a start.... how about this video about the Quicksilver speed run: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JRHQlyZaAk Or this infinite zoom effect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P-SgxQYke4 |

the infinite zoom can be made using Composite and Transform in Kdenlive, but a lot of the tutorials are using After Effects or Premiere... this means that Premier can't do After Effects works.. and After Effects can't do Premiere Works... and Also Kdenlive can't do what professional (and payed $) softwares can do with the same Quality and speed... (maybe it can do... but this is a free alternative to professional softwares, better to use Kdenlive ONLY if it can meet your video editing needs) |

Thanks bartoloni.
That makes sense. Maybe what I'm really asking is which of these effects can be done in Kdenlive, and how.... it would be a good way to learn more about the tool (and its limitations). And could be a good showcase for Kdenlive. I only discovered the Transform effect recently though I've used Kdenlive for years (on and off)! |

I haven't used Premiere Pro since 2015, so my knowledge is a bit rusty, and some of the features in the videos you linked are new to me, but I'll answer as best as I can.
One Kdenlive YouTuber I really like to learn advanced Kdenlive effects from is Arkhengeist 2.0 (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtkSBZ ... mR3NNBTWwg). Here's an example of one of their videos: https://youtu.be/Y9SNRIIfDL8 Now, for the videos you linked, I've watched them to see which similar effects exist in Kdenlive. It'll be presented like this: Premiere Pro effect - - - Kdenlive effect. Quicksilver Speed Run (1:55) Cut - - - Cut (I'm guessing you already know how to do this) (2:08) Frame hold - - - I've looked into this, and it's basically just a frame extracted to make a still. Info on how to do this on Kdenlive can be found here: https://kdenlive.org/en/project/extract ... o-project/ (2:15) Pen tool/Mask - - - Rotoscoping. Written instructions explaining the process can be found here: https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manua ... otoscoping A quick video of it in action can be found here: https://youtu.be/VkwcM4GLYVE (skip to 0:29) (2:21) Nest - - - I'm honestly not sure. Grouping, perhaps? (2:30) Transform - - - Transform (same thing can be done on Kdenlive, keyframes and all) (2:48) Temporal Interpolation - - - Smooth Interpolation Explaination: https://kdenlive.org/en/project/the-smo ... rpolation/ Video where the person adds "Transform" and then adds smoothness: https://youtu.be/sKPJuAsSRDM (skip to 2:27) (3:10) Shutter Angle - - - Motion Blur Seems like this effect isn't available yet. Here's a forum discussion on some work-arounds: https://github.com/olive-editor/olive/issues/634 Another lenghtier workaround: https://youtu.be/sKPJuAsSRDM That's it! Infinite Zoom This one uses After Effects, so it's likely something to look into with either Natron or Blender (I'm not skilled in either). If you wanted to try it out with Kdenlive, I would play around with either the Position & Zoom, Transform, and/or Composite Transitions. Use keyframes, and try copying keyframes from one clip to another (by doing copy, right click, then "Paste Effects"). You should also be able to enable/disable tracks as well (https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manua ... e#Timeline, go to Track Header, under "Hide Video"). It would be amazing to have someone do Copycat type videos with free tools, but having a studio set-up and equipment like they do is not cheap, and it seems like they are sponsored. Hopefully, some day! I would love to create some tutorials when I have the time. |
