It is already possible to directly replace (swap) clips inside the project bin by editing the project file in a text editor.
But I suggest a native feature in KDEnlive's graphical user interface that can directly substitute clips inside the project bin. |

Sounds interesting, can you give a usecase? What would happen if the clip in already and is 10 seconds long and you substitute it with a clip 4 seconds long?

Use case: Replacing images. Also, if the length does not match: How would KDEnlive handle it if two files swapped their names? Example: * Video1.mp4 is inside the project. * KDEnlive closed, project saved. * Video1.mp4 gets overwritten with different video file. * KDEnlive opened. If the substitute is too long, just cut it off where it hits the next clip. If it is too short, just insert the available parts. |

This feature could also be very useful for templates.
Those can be put into project archives and shared online. |

As far as with 20.08.3, this is no longer possible. I've spend quite a time trying to replace a single clip but it always complains the <producer>s are corrupted. Thinking it's checking not only filenames and hashes but all metadata and, if something doesn't match, it yields an error and won't use the replaced one. |
