working with Large Files

Wed Feb 05, 2020 11:53 pm
I have to bring in large movie files in 4k and edit 20 30 second clips from large videos. However when I try to do a reverse motion the system wants to do the reverse on the entire 2 hour movie. How do I tell the system to only do the revere on the 10 or 20 second clip ?

currently is not possible to make a reverse motion using the CTRL+MOUSE on edge of clips, but i think this will be implemented soon. :(
for now the only thing i can suggest is to created a reverse clip using SPEED JOB (-100%) and mix the original clip with the generated one :(

It just seems ridiculous that I would have to reverse the entire 2.5 hour movie just to do a 10 second reverse clip. That is a major design flaw.

Last year this was possible using speed effect.... this effect is now replaced with the hotkey CTRL (for a better and faster selection of %) but for now it support only positive % , the negative range probably will be added soon.

https://invent.kde.org/kde/kdenlive/issues/555

BTW digging on Kdenlive menu' i found that there is a "REVERSE CLIP" flag on "CLIP SPEED"... using this flag you are able to reverse only a CUTTED portion of the clip.

I have it in the latest version (19.12.1), switching back to the Selection tool after selecting with the razor.

As I do myslef edit footage with kdenlive a lot, I do use Vidcutter for cutting large, long videos into smaller chunks that are to be used.

It saves lot of space on drives, cause I get rid of the rest.

It speeds up the editing greatly, too.

For you it will allow to select the part of video you want to play backwards and save time.
