I've been using Kdenlive for a couple of years now so I don't consider myself a newbie, but something started happening with a file of mine that is driving me crazy and I hope someone can tell me what's going on.
I'm working on a video that is roughly five minutes in length, but there are a quite a number of video files and zones from video files being used. What started happening yesterday is that when I opened the file all of the elements on the timeline shifted in odd ways some moving leftwards and others shifting right. If I had transitions applied the transitions would shift with the upper clip. I fixed everything saved it and when I reopened the file they shifted again. I fixed it again and saved it with a new file name thinking maybe something was corrupted in the old Kdenlive file. Still no luck. I'm at wits end. this is the final segment of a much larger project that I was hoping to wrap up this week, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I'm running Kdenlive version 20.10.3 in the latest stable version of Ubuntu Linux installed on a Dell laptop with 16 GB memory and a 1,000 GB harddirve, and an Intel Core i7 2.2GHz processor. Any suggestions for resolving this issue will be much appreciated |

Have you tried upgrading to the latest version 21.08.3? Or even the beta 21.12?

HI there,
I confirm having the identical problem after last system/kernel update. I am on slackware-current and kdenlive is updated at every KDE release, (part of the slackware package updates). The most annoying part is that occasionally, after countless times, it seems to go ok, but only for short (1-3min) clip. Very occasionally! I thought that last kernel update had bugs that crashed with kde and, suspected it was bcos I was adding JPG and/or PNG images on the timeline; removed them and nothing changed. Saved the project and re-opened with most clips and cuts out of place. Then i thought it was bcos one of my clips was a 'm4v' file; converted to 'mp4' and the issue still occurs. And if I render before closing, it automatically renders the arlecchino project, with transitions and clips everywhere except the right place. I am on latest kdenlive-21.08.3 |

Ok, i have an update.
It seems that if i get rid of all color effects, i.e. contrast, curves, etc., the timeline and all cuts in it, remains as saved; it retain alpha effects and transitions such as transform, wipe, etc. I am definitely sure about the 'colour' effect because i tried first with the color 'curves' and it messed up the rendering and timeline on re-openng; then I tried with the 'contrast' effect and it did the same. Frustrating because it wasn't like this before the last kernel and package update and some colour effects are really necessary when making videos however, If i have no colour effects on clip-cuts* it works as it should. I hope this will help the developers (and maybe other users too). * i said clip-cuts because if a colour effect (i only tried contrast and curves) is added on a 'whole' clip it doesnt seem to affect the rendering and/or saved timeline. EDIT: I guess that I was dancing too soon. I tried to finish the last part of a 15min holiday video and I did NOT add any colour effect thinking it would not cause the problem but... i was wrong! Almost no effects at all in 8min video-montag and it is severely messed up after rendering. I guess my video editing hobby will be on hold for a while as i don't think i can try again (it would usually take about 4-5hrs of editing an I have been struggling with it for 3 days). sad sob! |

Have you found any solution? |

I took drastic actions and nuked my entire computer (after backing up my files, of course) and reinstalled both Ubuntu and Kdenlive. After doing that I started a fresh file and rebuilt the entire scene without problems. Drastic, I know, and I probably took a sledgehammer to a problem that could have been resolved with a scalpel, but I had to be sure. Anyway that was my way of resolving the issue.

Thanks.
I decided to remove the kdenlive package and reinstall it and it seems, so far, that the problem has vanished. |

This bug has been introduces after 21.08.1 - a downgrade to this version helps!
I filed a bug with steps to reproduce: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446243 |

Strange because I used kdenlive-21.08.3 for the entire summer (to make holiday video with friends) and it never glitched. For me, it all happened after the kernel 5.14.. to 5.15.. update. The issue seemed to disappear when i removed the package and reinstalled it but, as soon as i started working on a larger(longer) video project, it happened again (and don't even want to remember the frustrations moving hundreds of clip-cuts and transitions around, adjusting duration, etc.). For a few days, I have been using the appimage of the kdenlive-21.12.. and it hasn't happened once. I hope the next stable kdenlive package will fix this. Thanks KDEnlive and the developers for your hard work. EDIT: forgot to mention that, the timeline of a 'project.kdenlive' file would go wonky after the first render. Before rendering, I would save it and re-open it and no anomalies were detected (in my case). After the first rendering, no matter how many times I adjusted it, closed&saved, it would always be messed up. |
