I use two monitors, one for the timeline and the other for everything else which I undock. On adding an effect to a clip in the timeline, for example, transform, all of the window tabs disappear from the undocked windows. This is quite troublesome for me in my editing practice. This is a new phenomenon and I have recently upgraded my hardware and with that my Linux Mint. Before the upgrade, on the old system, this problem did not occur. Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon (version 5.0.7). KDENliveBreeze Dark theme, software manager shows this as version 4:19.12.3-0ubuntu1. Any pointers or support much appreciated.

Looks like you are using an old version 19.12.3. Try upgrading to the latest 21.12.1 (via ppa, flatpack or appimage)

Thanks berndmj,
This is a new system and I downloaded from the package manager so it seems strange that I should have an older kdenlive package. I will try your advice. Thanks for taking the time to point this out.

have now removed older version and installed latest as advised. Works perfectly. Many thanks. Again, it is odd to my way of thinking that the Software Manager should be offering older, non-functional versions!

I am not entirely sure how the SW Manager administration works in the different Linux flavors out there but IIRC someone needs to update the list and make the packages available. So there may be a delay in the availability of the different applications depending on priorities and what not.

If you want to make sure to get the latest version you need to add the kdenlive repository (ppa) to your SW Manager. Instructions for that are available on the kdenlive homepage.

And version 19.12. was not non-functional. It had its bugs and shortcomings like any other version (unfortunately) which were fixed more or less in subsequent versions. 21.12.1 still has a few issues, so don't get your hopes up yet ;-)
