I'm in my 70s and am a retired Licensed Broadcast Engineer who started editing with a razor blade on 2 inch quad tape. I have been using KDEnlive through several computers and versions. I've been on Linux since v.2 of Red Hat.
I jumped from KDEnlive 16+ on a Debian laptop to a $6,000 tower specifically for KDEnlive editing. It has the latest: Mint Linux 20+, The biggest AMD CPU and the largest AMD video card with 16gbit video memory and 32 gig of computer memory. I'll list all specific as needed. I miss the KDEnlive 16+ version. It did everything and did it well. The laptop was too light. I had to uninstall v 21 because it crashed and stuttered worse than doing 4K on the laptop. It crashes before I can do anything. So I went back to 19+ v. It crashes. It argues, and yes it lies. Half of the editing features corrupts the video. I cannot use two effects at the same time or it will corrupt the video. Chroma key will not either work a majority of the time or lies. I think I have everything working and render the video. It will either black out the video for a chroma key or will not effect the key, meaning the key slide covers the video, including the background color. I have had it show a previous key slide instead of the one over the video at the current position. I've had to bring up Openshot to do some editing because of the behavior of KDEnlive. I cannot budget my time because I just don't know what will happen next. I have my programs on a solid state hard drive and store files on a traditional enterprise 5200 rpm hard drive. I have spend about 30 hours a week for the past two months just trying to get this editor working close to the quality level of v16. I have supported the development of this software on an annual basis when we do yearly donations. This is worse than trying to do something on a Windows 3.1 system. Unbelievable. I hope you have some solution. If I stated everything, this would be the length of War and Peace .... Do I need to go back to Debian OS? Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

I have been using kdenlive 21.12.1 (flatpak version only) on linux mint 20.3 (una) and have create a view video's for YouTube. General it has worked with no crashes. Had to use the flatpak version as the .deb or appimage ones did not have LADSPA noise suppressor for voice listed. Have not been able to get that working on the appimage or .deb for the life of me. The flatpak has issue with downloading text templates. Only the three shows up not matter what you install. The appimage 22.03.70 does randomly crash. It will not allow you to download new title templates ( nothing happen when selecting that function). The gpu function doesn't work on any version. So show up in red but can cause crashes, so I don't use at all. I have a Radeon 5750 with Juniper gpu and mint sees it and some software use it but not kdenlive. The .deb 4:21.12.1-4~ubuntu20.04.1 (21.12.1) work, and has LADSPA and various module except for "noise suppressor for voice" go figure. Various version of the kdenlive use MLT 7.3.0 or 7.4.0 or 7.5.0. I will try to use the .deb 4:21.12.1-4 on my next video, since I don't use the noise suppressor, will be using Audacity for future noise removal. Hope this helps someone.

I have been using kdenlive 21.12 (Appimage) Linux mint 20 and it works fine for me, it crashes sometimes but I'm running an Optiplex 380 4GB no video card from 2010 so understandable.
I have a channel on YouTube either, the content is not so good because my machine is limited. Best solution, If 21.12 dos not work for you just downgrade and wait for new releases to fix everything. |
