When I import a clip shot on my phone into Kdenlive (22.08.1) on Macos (Big Sur (11.7)) I see a notice that the variable frame rate video clip needs to be transcoded. All good so far. But I can't find any description of the options in the documentation:

Other forum systems allow us to upload screenshots. That would be very helpful here.

For example, what does "frame only" mean?

this is something about "i-Frame" : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_com ... ture_types
i understand that a lot of things on Kdenlive (and shotcut and openshot .. etc etc.. ) are using un-friendly names but probably on future this will addressed (maybe) .. a major issue with terms/names is the translation on all languages (and usually the real name of an "IT thing" doens't have an appropiate translation in any language)

Thanks, @bartoloni, the information at that link explained it nicely.
I thought that the "I frame only" bit had a vertical bar in it, and it meant something like getting the frames only, and not the audio. But it means i-frame, not p-frame or b-frame.

I have put a suggestion in the bug tracker at
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459684
You might have better suggestions :-)
