Sometimes, it could be useful to change effects parameters while a clip is going.
When this is the case, I borrow a term from Digital Audio Workstations: Automation Clips.
They are 1 dimension SPLINE curves, with different interpolation algorithms, to represent a value from 0 to 1 in time (it's a scale factor, it's then mapped to the target paramter range)
Such clips could be cached and baked (term I borrow from Blender, means precomputed more or less) then used with "fake realtime".

Okay, I'm stupid.
I just found such mechanism it's already there, called keyframe.
Please excuse me.

Some plugins even are automated (IME). They follow the video and improve where and how much is needed.
