I have a video clip. I have shot it on an arbitrary time, say 19:23:45. This is a 10 second clip.

Coming back to Kdenlive, I have put the clip inside the timeline pane.

I want to add an overlay text from the start of the video. It should initially say 19:23:45, and should increment by 1 as 1 second of the video passes. Ideally it should stop at 19:23:55, as it would reach end of the video.

Is it possible to do with kdenlive? If so, where can I find resources?

Use Dynamic Text effect and have it display the timecode. In order to get the start time of the original video (in your example 19:23:45) put the start of the clip in the same timeline position. Use the Edit Duration option to adjust the starting position for fine tuning. To render just that segment define a timeline zone and render that zone only.

(I am assuming you know how to use kdenlive, define timeline zones and render zones only, obviously. If not, RTFM)

My timelines says something else about current time. The dynamic text says something else. I am posting an image of the thing I'm seeing: https://i.imgur.com/1Yi0Kmw.png

Easy fix: Put an empty title clip above the video and add the dynamic text effect there. Extend the start of the title clip to the beginning of the timeline.

I know it's stupid but unfortunately the effect takes the start of the clip as 0 and starts counting from there.

Okay, that works.

Is there any way I can get rid of frame numbers?

Unfortunately not. But you can use the Alpha Shapes effect with rectangle to just let the hh:mm:ss information through. Requires a bit of playing around with the video tracks and layering.

The Dynamic Text effect is a MLT effect, and the kdenlive devs have no influence over how it works and what keywords it accepts. See the documentation here. Perhaps you can contact the MLT developer team to ask for additional keywords to be implemented.
