keeping track of 'real' time?

Mon Apr 17, 2023 1:29 pm
New user.
Fedora 37 Linux.
mp4 input, 4gb chunks.
Canon video camera, which records time against a 00.00.00 baseline.

I join the chunks, then generate output at 8 times 'something' time?

Is there any way I can keep the 'input' time please on the output video?

I want a finished rendered video where a visible timeline shows the time relative to the start of the recording.

Create an empty title clip spanning the entire timeline and add the Dynamic Text effect to it.

Not as wanted?
I've 8 hours of video, single feed. With it I have a timeline.
Traffic monitoring.
I want to see 'some sort' of accurate timeline in the output, not a single frame?
Then I can note xxx cars at 4'24" etc
Sorry if it's not clear, not used to video editing.

the problem is that the dynamic text timecode is starting from ZERO... and not from a specific hour/minute...

https://invent.kde.org/multimedia/kdenl ... 0CtW0p.mp4

the clip can be cutted after adding the timecode... m but is showin only the hours/minutes/seconds related to clip durantion... (5 min clip ... from 0 to 5 min timecode)

Thank you, I'll find that.
If I note the 'start time' I can then calculate the actual time.

Which i think is exactly what the OP wanted:

This is correct if you add the effect to each clip. But if you create an empty title clip that spans the entire timeline, and then add the effect it starts at 00:00:00;00 and ends at 12:34:56;25 ;-)

Thanks for the help.
(Being picky?)
the time shows as 16 digits?

Is there any way to reduce it to show only hours and minutes please?

======================
Wow. Recorded about 12 hours video.
Rendering... (maybe)
Current remaining time, 22:27:36, frame 42528 @ 14 fps!

that really is slow! Near double the recorded time?

That's because the keyword #timecode# uses hh:mm:ss:ff to format the output and includes not only the time but also the frame. If you add #frame# it shows the frame number (count starts at frame 0 at the beginning of the clip)

I asked how to reduce what is shown? Is that possible please, just hh:mm
- where is this documented please?

Unfortunately, this cannot be customized as this is an MLT feature only offering a set number of keywords. You may want to try a feature request for MLT with them directly at https://www.mltframework.org/
