After 5 weeks of shooting, and months of editing, the documentary from the POC21 open source hardware camp is finished!
Watch or download it here, it's licensed under CC-BY-SA.

About POC21:
POC21 is an international innovation community, that started as an innovation camp. The camp brought together 100+ makers, designers, engineers, scientists and enthusiasts. In late summer 2015, we joined forces in a stunning French castle to prototype a fossil free, zero waste society. Our ultimate goal was to overcome the destructive consumer culture and make open-source, sustainable products the new normal. Over the course of 5 weeks we developed 12 sustainable lifestyle technologies and built an international community of innovators and supporters, that continues to grow.

We have already screened the film twice in Paris, twice in Berlin, and this week there are screenings in Lyon, Brussels, and Wellington, with more screenings planned for Rio de Janeiro, Denver, Portland and other cities, as well as a few more times in Paris & Berlin.

I came up against some real challenges working on this with Kdenlive, so I'm posting a series of issues in the forum and a blog post will follow soon.
A few audio issues to start with:
Export for Sound Mix
Independent length adjustment of synched audio
Fixing inaccurate camera sync

There are also a few simple animations made with Inkscape and Synfig in the film as well. We're working on subtitles in different languages on Amara, we'll have French, English, German, Spanish and maybe Portuguese in a week or two.

That's great!

Are you guys planning to screencast in Italy too? I will try to help with translation. :)

hmm, I don't know if there are any screenings planned for Italy , we don't have such a large netwrok there unfortunately - OuiShare Italia would be the people to ask I think. But anyone can just download the film and put on a screening, so I hope someone decides to!

Canon 5DmkII (magic lantern has significantly extended the life of that old beast) with 24-105mm, 50mm & 20mm lenses. Sachtler Ace tripod, Edelkrone Slider Plus, and a cheap junky shoulder rig. The Ace is not strong enough for a fully extended central-mounted slider, so most of the time I put it on a hefty old photo tripod with a central column.

The one area my camera let me down was in low light. I basically couldn't shoot past sunset with the 5D, but another guy had a Sony A7S which I could borrow when necessary - amazing what an improvement 8 years of camera technology can provide!

Very impressive work, we'll do a screening of this in our hackerspace next week.
I do have one question: At a few points, you tracked some text to people and other things.
Was this done manually (e.g. with transform, and by setting keyframes by hand?) or did you use some automatic way?

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! the tracking shots are from two other videos made before the camp, and before my involvement ( 1, 2) I just edited parts of the completed videos into the film. I assume they were tracked and titled with After Effects.
Anything but the simplest, most mechanical footage will give you bad results if you try to track + animate titles manually.
For achieving the effect with Free Software, you can use Blender or Natron. Here's a screencast showing the title tracking process in Natron.
I hope the screening goes well, where is your hackerspace?

Ah, I see. I've used Blender for that before, but I'll certainly take a look at your link, thanks a lot!
I really need to get into Natron…
Blender is really powerful for a lot of stuff, but sometimes just a pain to use and render with.

We're the Munich Maker Lab (obviously) in Munich
The screening won't be super huge, but I hope we can get a few people together :D

Nice! Don't miss Timm and Dominik's talks at Make Munich, 13:00-14:00 on Saturday and Leonie's on Sunday! They will all be discussing POC21, and my colleague Lars Zimmermann will be presenting the related Open Source Circular Economy Days on Sunday.

(actually now I will be taking over from Lars for the OSCEdays talk, so if you decide to go to Make Munich, come and say hi!)

Oh no, didn't read your post, and unfortunately didn't get around to watch any of the talks at Make Munich (basically was doing bar shifts most of the time) :(
I'll let you know how the screening went tomorrow

Still at the viewing, having a blast :D
We have about 30 people here, most of them aren't space members or anything
The film was applauded and we're having quite an interesting discussion right now about the projects.
