Open always shows Config Wizard

Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:34 am
My installation looks 100% OK. Can even capture video from my old Sony TRV355E. Use keyframes with audio tracks. Import .mp3 files etc. BUT.....

Every time I open Kdenlive I get the Config Wizard. What should I do to stop this please?

Kdenlive was installed using Software Manager without any problem.

Mike.

Have you followed the configuration wizard all the way to the last step where you click the "finish" button?

Yes - a number of times. I can think of nothing I have left undone.

Having clicked FINISH I then get the 'untitled' window and then when I try to open a TEST project I get the ERROR message below.

If I click OK the error message closes and I am free to open my TEST project; see 2nd screenshot.

From that you can also see three captured clips showing that the app is working as expected.

I would really like to get rid of this opening glitch and get stuck into testing the application fully. I am MOST impressed at what I am seeing so far.

Looks like I can add a third graphic and as you can see NO lack of file capacity.ImageImageImage

Seems like a permission problem on your $HOME/.kde directory.
Could you try the following:

sudo chown -R $USER:$GROUP $HOME/.kde

(replace $USER with your linux user name and $GROUP with the group of your user)

Thanks j-b-m - looks like that did the trick but I had to have a couple of goes. The screenshot chown-RTerminal shows the last of my first try.

I then changed myself to Administrator in Users & Groups - and all seems to have worked. See chownADMINTerminal.png

Have just opened Kdenlive without any error messages and will see what happens after a reboot.

I really do like Kdenlive as a replacement for the Premier Elements 4 I have been using. Not quite as slick at first glance but I am sure it will do all I want. The one MUST HAVE that I need is the capability to use keyframes with the AUDIO tracks to fade out original sound where necessary and then to modify a 'music' track to allow for my 'voice over' commentary. NOw it really does look like I will be able to get rid of WindowsXP.

BTW - As you can see I am new to this forum. Is it possible to put the graphics 'In Line'?

Thanks again for your spot on advice.
