kdenlive 0.5 install on fedora 6

Thu May 31, 2007 12:46 pm

Hi All,

I am attempting to run kdenlive on fedora core 6. I thought that I had everything all installed fine - as per the instructions on the wiki page. I had installed mlt & mlt++ - however kdenlive does not appear to start. When I attempt to launch it from a command window I get the following error:

kdenlive: error while loading shared libraries: libmlt++.so.0.2.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Can anyone help me to sort this problem??

thanks in advance,

Craig

If it can be useful, I installed on FC6 using mandriva packages for mlt, mlt++, libmlt, libmlt++ and kdenlive. I had to manage some tricky workaround (e.g. using rpm instead of yum) to avoid the blocks caused by some"false" dependencies caused by the differences between FC6 and Mandriva2007 kde packages, but it works.

I don't have the exact packages names here right now, but I'll be able to post later if you need more infos.

I did it yesterday, and then worked for about two hours on a short clip, and it seems everything is ok, easy, very fast and stable (no crash in two hours seems heaven for someone used to work on cinelerra... ;) ).

The only problem is that in the short clips I created for test, the video freezes after 1-2 seconds, while audio goes on, if played with vlc or ViPlay on w95. But since they play correctly on Kplayer i suppose I'll have to adjust some rendering params...

Sorry for answering so late (hoping it's not too late...).

I'll try to explain how i successfully installed kdenlive on FC6 from Mandriva packages, but no guarantee, because I did it just once and I'm not sure to have understood exactly why it worked. So if you'll try and it will work for you too, maybe you'll be able to explain it better than me.

Anyway:

I downloaded the following packages:

libmlt++0.2.4-.2.2-6mdv2007.1.i586.rpm

libmlt0.2.2-0.2.2-9mdv2007.1.i586.rpm

mlt-0.2.4-2mdv2007.1.i586.rpm

mlt-0.2.4-0.2.4-mdv2007.1.i586.rpm

kdenlive-0.5-2mdv2007.1.i586.rpm

Then installed the first three with "yum localinstall package_name.rpm". I used yum to make easier to resolve the dependencies.

The last two packages both returned an unresolved dependencies error. The kdenlive package requested 'kdebase-progs', unfortunately I don't remember what was the mlt-0.2.4-0.2.4 request. I guessed that it was because the packages that could resolve the requested dependencies had in Mandriva a different name than in FC6, so I tried to install with "rpm -U --nodeps package_name.rpm" to disable the dependencies check.

I was lucky: kdenlive works, and works very well! Thanks for your work guys!!
