The latest stable packages are available for Intrepid on my ppa : deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/sunab/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

- Kdenlive 0.7.5
- MLT 0.4.4

- some backports from jaunty : sox, frei0r-plugins, x264 and gavl.
- ffmpeg unstripped version svn 20081115, the latest version possible without braking all packages depending on ffmpeg.(because of ffmpeg api changes)

WARNING : without backports enabled this version of kdenlive WILL NOT install. Intrepid backports gives access to newer kde libs.

NOTE : this ffmpeg is now old, and you may experience some decode difficulties because of it, so you are encouraged to switch to Jaunty.
But if you want to stay under intrepid, this ppa will show you the great changes of Kdenlive 0.7.5.
