Missing codecs on 0.7.2.1 install ?

Wed Feb 04, 2009 7:09 pm

Hi

I posted to another forum here that the number of render options when using the latest ubuntu kdenlive packages are very limited and taht i seem to be missing some of them.

I also found this :- screenshot attached.

Am I supposed to have no avaialble codecs at all when I run the First Time Wizard? Mines a full Ubuntu 8.10 install with most of the libs you coudl ever wish to want !

OS

I couldn't see any attachment.

But don't worry. If you see no formats availabe on the firts run wizard it does not means you are not getting them. It's just a little problem between kdenlive and MLT.

What export profile you suppose to be missing?

I worked it out. On another install I found that are the codecs are shown when you are in the Render menu, but here none are shown at all. I think I was getting really poor rendering as it was selecting the first on the list by default but i cant see them.

I'll try and reinstall completely, and see if the missing codecs show up. I think they are there, as I did manage to render a file, but they just dont show up in the Render Menu

Nope, reinstalling doesnt help. I think Kdenlive is still kepping some info back taht isnt being deleted on a re-install, as it still knows the last project settings and lods the last project.

I found the file where the different render profiles are setup, but it seems that my kdenlive isnt reading thsi correctly.

Upgrading two of my Ubuntu 8.10 installs with 0.7.2.1 have lost the render options, but iinstalling on another pc, it works fine.

So, I think there is a problem in the Ubuntu packages affecting some pc's installs of Kdenlive.

I have the same problem, just that several profiles are missing.
They are graphically there. Greyish, with a bubble with an X in it at the beginning of the profile name.
All I need is the Web Profiles for now...

I'm off to research more...

Thanks

doing a

sudo apt-get install libavcodec-unstripped-52 libavdevice-unstripped-52 libavfilter-unstripped-0 libavformat-unstripped-52 libavutil-unstripped-49 libpostproc-unstripped-51 libswscale-unstripped-0

in Ubuntu 9.04 fixed it for me.

By the way, why arent these debs recommended when installing kdenlive anyway ? Without rendering, kdenlive wont be able to do much ?

You also need x264 and libmp3lame for H264 and mp3 export. Please refer to my page on Debian install. It should be the same in Ubuntu.

If this is not the case, please open a bug on Ubuntu platform. You may know that people are working on alternative packages. Always try to use Kdenlive 7.4 packages
