Hi Kdenlive,

I've been using this software for years now, having just updated to wheezy though I find I can no longer install kdenlive :'(.
This is the error I get whenever I try:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdenlive : Depends: libmlt++3 (>= 1:0.7.6) but 1:0.6.2-0.0 is to be installed
Depends: libmlt4 (>= 1:0.7.6) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

being an amateur I don't really understand why/what this is happening. I have come a long way to get to this situation, and am particularly peeved that I can't get past this. Any help would be really appreciated.

Have you tried adding sunabs PPA either the stable or development. https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/kdenlive-release


Or you could try the build script if all else fails. http://www.mltframework.org/twiki/bin/view/MLT/BuildScripts

thanks for the idea, when I set it up to use the Precise Pangolin repo, it says I have unresolved dependancies, and need to fix the broken libraries. Is it alright to be using ubuntu repos' on a Debian distribution?

Hi, I'd fix the broken packages first, make sure that only the distro repos are in use. Remove kdenlive / MLT completely. That might fix the mlt version problem, manually check that all kdenlive / MLT related files have actually been removed by browsing the locations that all the files reside in. I'd then reboot.

Then try installing kdenlive again and see.

If that doesn't fix it, perhaps try the build script first as it produces localised dated folder builds in your home directory and keep your distro kdenlive version and hope they update.

re PPA, personally I'd not make a habit of mixing distro libraries and would, as I've done over the years compile a localised version of a troublesome app which can be a mine field or if the problem persists with a distros 'slowness' due to aiming for 'proven stability' before an app is updated by the distro maintainers try another distro.

The PPA ws really as a last option.
