So just for fun and as an educational exercise I tried to instal kdenlive on a virtual Mac.
After 2 days the macport install finished reporting success as follows ---> Cleaning kdenlive ---> Updating database of binaries: 100.0% ---> Scanning binaries for linking errors: 100.0% ---> No broken files found. And then I tried to run the post install commands at http://kdenlive.org/download-mac which gave me these results roger-mortons-Mac-mini:~ ttguy$ sudo chown -R $USER ~/Library/Preferences/KDE chown: /Users/ttguy/Library/Preferences/KDE: No such file or directory roger-mortons-Mac-mini:~ ttguy$ sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.freedesktop.dbus-system.plist croger-mortons-Mac-mini:~ ttguy$ sudo chown $USER /Library/LaunchAgents/org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist roger-mortons-Mac-mini:~ ttguy$ launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchAgents/org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist roger-mortons-Mac-mini:~ ttguy$ open -a kdeinit4 Unable to find application named 'kdeinit4' -- It appears I don't have a ~/Library/Preferences/KDE file - how come? Do I need one? How can I get one? I found my kdeinit4 at /Applications/MacPorts/KDE4/ But this command also fails $ open -a /Applications/MacPorts/KDE4/kdeinit4 FSPathMakeRef(/Applications/MacPorts/KDE4/kdeinit4) failed with error -43. So I ploughed ahead with my MacOSX post install
% sudo chown -R $USER ~/Library/Preferences/KDE <- did not do. no such file or directory % sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.freedesktop.dbus-system.plist <- did this % sudo chown $USER /Library/LaunchAgents/org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist <- did this % launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchAgents/org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist <- did this % open -a kdeinit4 <- did not do this. File not found and when I found it this step failed error -43 Add a Login Item: <- did do this And then I was able to launch Kdenlive from /Applications/MacPorts/KDE4/ And it works - kinda. It starts and all. But preview of video does not work. Which could be due to the virtual machine. And my only go at rendering produced an unplayable file. But it was fun diving into the mac world a bit. So should we remove the chown and the open -a steps from the doco do y'all think? |
