Ok, I have created all kinds of new accounts all over apple and
this site.

I did the

sudo port selfupdate
sudo port -d selfupdate
sudo port install kdenlive (did not work)
sudo port (ok)
install kdenlive (ok)
... and this took overnight +hours!

then

launchctl load /Library/LaunchAgents/org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist

>:Library jennyp$ sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchAgents/org.freedesktop.dbus-session.plist
Password:
nothing found to load

then..

>:Library jennyp$ sudo chown -R $USER ~/Library/Preferences/KDE
Password:

and

>:Library jennyp$ $eval `dbus-launch --auto-syntax`
Failed to start message bus: launchd's environment variable DBUS_LAUNCHD_SESSION_BUS_SOCKET is empty, but should contain a socket path.

EOF in dbus-launch reading address from bus daemon

I've gotten nowhere at all, except that I've used up about half a TB of
disk space and several hours of fruitless work.

Any real help on this out there??

Is it really worth it? We just wanted to try this package to
see if it would meet movie editing needs.

Thanks.

Personally, as the MacPorts maintainer, no, I do not really think it is worth it. I made it to scratch an itch - just to brag that it does work. However, I do think MacPorts is a PITA. This must be what Gentoo is like for Linux.
