Personal folders unusuable.

Thu Nov 14, 2013 1:58 pm
:'(
I cant use KDenlive. Because I WANT to have a little system Disk and not a main disk like 1T or 500 Giga, and use external disks for jobs. I want to work outside the computer, with another disk! Is this version ready for use another disk rather than the MAIN? Can I work with an EXTERNAL disk? Thanks.

Yes, I store all my large projects on an external USB3 disk. kdenlive just gives you a hint, that the project folder is on an external disk.

Ok. I installed it. The project has the home/kdenlive folder as a temporary folder. If I set the origin of the project in a external media and then I add a file, that file is copied in the temporary folder. This is a duplicated file that I don't want. See the picture.
Image
If I choose a file, this is immediately copied in the default home folder.
Image
So I decided to change the PROJECT settings. And I set the default page in the external USB hard disk.
When I reopen a file this is copied in another temporary clip folder. This file will be so duplicated. At the end I set the same default folder to my repository. And Kdenlive goes in error because the file can't be copied on itself. As shown.
Image
What is the settings to not copy the files over media? I whould like to have the same situation as OPENSHOT, I add clips and the clips are added without copy!!!! Kdenlive has more settings and tools instead of OPENSHOT but this is the big KDenlive limit!!
Thanks.

Hmmm... kdenlive never copies any file to the project folder here. Did you change an existing project or did you create a new one?

In my experience, changing the project folder for an existing project might cause trouble, although kdenlive copies the project folders to the new destination. Setting the project folder on project creation and the add files to the project, never copies the files.

I never worked with the archive project function, but maybe you can archive your project and then unarchive it on the external media, if you are lucky, kdenlive gets the directories correctly, then.

I verify. If I open a new project KDenlive ask for the project folder. Then if I add a file it is copied to the clip subfolder of the PROJECT folder. For every add, there is a copy. That is IDIOT. What is the settings to DON'T permit this? What is the coder that created this idiot function? This is good when I open a camera device but not when I open a disk! Please is there anybody who know what is the setting to change this way to do? Many thanks.

Can you please post which settings you exactly applied for your project folder (project menu), your temp folder and default kdenlive folder (kdenlive settings)?

Which version of kdenlive do you have installed?

Blaming the developers usually is not a good way to get something solved.

I don't want to accuse, but should be the settings that tells to DON'T copy in a clipps subfolder. The version is 0.9.6. The settings are DEFAULT because I installed it two month ago. I uninstalled it because this problem, and now I reinstalled it. I have a default folder that is a USB external disk. There are some videos. If I add some of that videos the app ask me to copy it in the CLIPS subfolder. If there is a file with the same name it asks to change it but it copy the video in that folder. Annoiing and duplicating videos. WHY? After that I can see the video resources icon of that file copied. Is there a WAY to change settings and tell to KDenlive to Don't copy files in a clip subfolder?
Hear! If i add some file that are in the CLIP subfolder it goes in loop, it wants to change the name of the clip and it tryes to recopy it in another name because it find it there .... :D

I don't have a CLIPS folder at all when I create a new project. I have no idea what happens on your system, sorry. And if you do not provide more data, I cannot help you.

Here the settings. The CLIPS folder is not present I didn't made it but the KDenlive copy starts on that folder. If I erase that folder KDenlive recreates it and the copy starts for every add of file.

Re: Personal folders unusuable.  Topic is solved

I checked my settings. Mainly the same, different settings: path to gimp and audacity are not set here. If set them, still no copying, still no CLIPS folder when adding a clip to a project. What I just saw: Your default project folder and the video source seem to be the same, both /media_west_dig_500/VIDEO

The last ideas I have: Set your project folder to /tmp/kdenlive and let kdenlive create it if it does not exist. Check if kdenlive copies the clip if you add one. Or try to separate your project folder from your clip source. If that still not helps: Try to delete the kdenlive property file at (I guess, search to be safe): ~/.kde4/share/config/kdenliverc and restart kdenlive and test again.

Good luck!

I deleted the file. That is the right idea!!! Thanks!!!! The initial settings job started and the KDENLIVE rebuilded the config file. Probably it went wrong when I installed it the first time a lot of time ago .... Thanks. But It should be the FLAG witch let user to cancel this stupid copy. Thanks.

Hey, nice to get this sorted. It would be helpful to others, if you mark this thread as solved. :)
