Hi
I installed Kdenlive on a fresh installed and updated openSuse13.1 64bit with kde4.11.2, all mts Videos of my camcorder are smoothly played on vlc and other players but not in Kdenlive, here video+audio are very jerky.
As I installed Kdenlive 2 days ago, everything seemed to work fine, I even rendered successfuly a short test video. but since then, when I grab a mts to the timeline, at the first try it plays correctly, but only at that very first time, later on its always jerky.
What could be the problem??
I´m using a laptop with ATI firepro Video card and the default radeon driver (on the same laptop, with a windows7, there are no problems editing videos).

Proceeding on the the assumption that your camcorder produces HD material, you might want to use proxy clips. You can enable them in the project settings. kdenlive does much more with your footage that a plain player does and that is why player and kdenlive show different results on HD footage.

On parts with transitions (and I use a lot of them) its still very ´jumpy´, is there a way to solve this too??

The jumpyness results from frame dropping. This is done to be in or close to realtime when playing in the project monitor. And lots of effects and transitions mean a lot of calculations to be done. The only way to become smoother here is using faster hardware, mainly a faster CPU. But the rendered result will be fluffy - independent of the hardware.

Well, I experimented longer and realized that the HD material is very well played also without the proxy clips and that the problem is located only in the effects and transition areas.
So you mean there is nothing to do about it? Actually I´m using a pretty fast Quad Core CPU ( i7 820) but in Kdenlive using more than 1 Thread seems to be still experimental....

Even on a 3632qm you will get dropped frames when working with effects. But using proxies is a good way. It is simply too much data to be calculated in realtime for kdenlive without proxies. So I doubt you will get a smooth result with HD on any desktop system when working with effects and transitions.

Ok, now I got it how proxies function and the transitions are played fluently!
