Does your system have direct rendering available?

Is anything else of relevance printed to the console if you run Kdenlive in a terminal such as Konsole?

Looks as though your using an MLT version that does not have "movit" support.
See here:- http://kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=3231 It's made the latest version of Kdenlive completely useless on my machine, just crashes. I have to now use an older version. |

Yes, that is it (probably) - whitout "libmovit-dev" is build ok, but kdenlive chrashed on start, whit "libmovit-dev" build fails by building mlt |

The latest build does not fix this for me.
sunabs test ppa installs these for me libmovit2 1.1+git20140328.eb7b041e-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1 melt 0.9.1+git20140328.6f8293d5-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1 kdenlive 0.9.7+git20140329.d6992af3-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1 frei0r 1.4.0+git20131020.10d8360f-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1 and it get the "Initialization of OpenGL filters failed. Exiting" problem. I also get the same issue using the pre-complied daily builds. And I also get it if I complie kdenlive myself using the build script. Mantis created http://www.kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=3251 So this is not good. I am going to restore my system from backup to revert this. |

Both recent sunab kdenlive-svn/git as well as nightlies both still fail. U-n-u-s-a-b-l-e. Sad.

Hi TheDivO,
No need to say anything, crash has become a very dirty word here immediately followed by another. It's quite simple though, for me that is. Any clip that contains one of the 'original stock' effects being played through the Project Monitor cannot be stopped anywhere during play. Kdenlive just crashes. Disable the effect and the clip plays and stops fine. Clips with Movit effects are not affected and work fine, just all the others (I think). I think it's time to have some fun again and get away for a while. Holiday? No, by using my 12.04 daily build version from the 28th Feb last, which is just prior to the addition of Movit. Yes, it is sad... |

Yeah, I'm lucky that I don't need to or want to really use Kdenlive at this time. From the developer messages some time ago I expected to experience some rough time. But maybe because the development branch sailed away smoothly for such a long time I've come to expect that hard issues were typically sorted out in a short timeframe. Looking at the forum (help) messages starting end of March, beginning of April, we surely saw this pattern break recently.
I also have some old dailies, however they showed one or another show stopper for me ... typically not so much in the user interface but when it comes to rendering, which then gives severely different results from what I would have expected according to Kdenlive's preview. The only hope to me is that the devs are putting considerable effort into stabilizing the nightlies/head again. I am even willing to pay for their work, if the devs would step forward with a clear message and set up a way to fund their efforts. At this time, I lack this kind of communication from the devs. Don't know the reason though... |

From a note posted to mantis from vpinon (http://kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=3251#c10024) it would seem that the OpenGL stuff is being backed out of Kdenlive. For me this is a good thing. Because it looks like my graphics card can not handle it.
".. but looking at your glxinfo it seems that your GPU is not powerful enough, just like mine. For that reason I have pulled all the new stuff except GLSL (sorry Sesse:/) in the branch "next". A 0.9.6.x bugfix release should come from this. I am also planning to at last make "master" also able to work even if movit fails to start." vpinon on Wed, 05/14/2014 anounces ver 0.9.8 is released http://kdenlive.org/node/9179 I wonder if this is with or without the OpenGL stuff Sunabs PPA does NOT have this yet. https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/kdenlive-release |

Version 0.9.8 is in https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/kdenlive-release now. And I can report that it does not generate the "Initialization of OpenGL filters failed. Exiting" error.

I just compiled Kdenlive with the script, and it crashes (after the install wizzard goes thorugh) with this error.
I do have openGL (Nvidia). The README file in /src/kdenlive says it is version 0.9.6, and according to the ChangeLog file it is 0.9.7??? I thought the script would pull the latest version? Admittedly, I use an old build script... |
