I am guessing someone should have had this issue also but can't see any posts . I have just migrated from 10.04 Ubuntu to 14.03 less the Unity desktop , for some reason Kdenlive Crashes whe i try to Render , this does not happen whe i run Kdenlive as Sudo user. It seems to be something to do whith the way Kdenlive uses /tmp directories. i have have notices 14.03 and as i recall 12.02 now has the "Me" user that it uses . I have opened up the permissions of the /tmp directory with no change . Should i be changing some configuration in Kdenlive to use a tmp directory in my home directory? Is there something specific in the UID that Kdenlive is looking for? Even the Kdenlive from the Ubuntu repo does this, or the the kdenlive PPA. Any clues appreciated in advance . Thanks

Unfortunately I do not see anything useful in that output you've posted.

Create a new Linux user and try to reproduce the error using that account. You need to try to gather in as many clues as possible.

Tried adding a new user and rendering works fine .

On the fresh user when rendering .

My original account that was present before the 14.03 upgrade and a sudo user . If i run kdenlive as sudo I get the rendering message as above . I notice on 14.03 file permissions, I now have a "Me" user on file permissions . Not real sure how that works . Creation of the /tmp/kde-username ---- I expect has something to do with it .

Thanks in advance . I will have a poke around at the new users file permissions on these tmp files and see if i can see nay differences .

In the /tmp directory for the fresh user that works , a couple of directories have been made kde-kdenlivetest (new user name is kdenlivetest) and ksocket-kdenlivetest orbit-kdenlivetest
All directories are empty and owned by kdenlivetest .

I assume xauth-1001-_1 is for UID 1001 ?

Good deal. You might try checking your system logs to see if a message was logged in response to the file permission problem you encountered when using your original login to render content.

Tried changing the the tmp folder to something on the home directory , Logs didn't have any permission complaints

Can you please post the output of "id -un" and "id -gn" under the normal user, as well as the full content of the permissions error message you are seeing (as a screenshot if necessary)?

I have sorted it out i think . I may have well caused it myself . As part of the install process I guess some temporary files or directories get made. I expect these have been given root permissions. To resolve the problem . Go to settings . Run configuration wizard again with the desired login (not sudo) . Now rendering works fine.
