Simplest would be to add the appropriate repo, do an update and install kdenlive. But beware what other dependencies it will pull in! You might inadvertently do a full system upgrade! Alternatively download the kdenlive.deb package and try installing it with dpkg. You'll see soon enough whether it works or not.

Hm, not sure. Don't the folks at kubuntuforums.net know this kind of stuff? After all, they are the Kubuntu specialists ;)

Just did a quick (!) google and it appears that the old Kubuntu does not have access to the latest kdenlive. This could be because of certain libraries, dependencies, what have you.

As I said, have a poke around the kubuntuforums.net and see what they say. Alternatively install the new Kubuntu in a virtual machine and take it from there ;)

Kdenlive 15.04 is the port to KDE frameworks 5, which is only available in latest (k)ubuntu 15.04.
No way to get it on 14.04, expect by building KDE 5 from source... overkill! better is to install kubuntu 15.04 in a chroot if you really want to try Kdenlive 15.04

ah ok
If I want to use lastest and future version of Kdenlive, (K)Ubuntu 15.04 or upper are needed
For (K)Ubuntu version up to 14.10 remains Kdenlive 9.10
I will try to install Kubuntu 15.04 in a separated partition

Thank you for precious informations

OK, I have Kubuntu 15.04, and I have no idea how to install the newest kdenlive. Why are people here being so cryptic on how to get the new version. The instructions on the kdenlive website are now WRONG. They don't work. Is kdenlive 15.04.0 some special club that only the chosen few are allowed to be in.

Because that's the impression I get from the responses on the 2 or 3 threads on here asking for help on how to get the new version.

Sunab's PPA only has 9.10. Where do we get 15.04.0?

Cryptic??? Why...that's just how we tech-nerds converse. Seriously though...it can seem cryptic I'm sure, but that's not intentional. Many assume that others have a base level of knowledge and don't want to take the time to detail each step.

We're not a special club but I will say this: over the last year, there's a lot more people using this software than before. Much of that is due to being included in the latest KDE release. This increase in the user base however, has not, at this time, resulted in a swelling of the ranks of those that maintain and support Kdenlive. I can understand your frustration but please bear with the Kdenlive community as it goes through these requisite growing pains.

Are you looking to build the latest development release or install the latest 'stable' packaged release? The version of Kdenlive that installs from SoftwareCenter is the latest 'stable' release (15.03.80) which is based on the historical 0.9.10. Note that version numbers for Kdenlive are switching over to the KDE numbering scheme - therefore 15.03.80 is the 80th bugfix release from March of 2015.

If you want to build the latest development release then that's a totally different deal.

jkolodziej raises several true problems: beyond having few developers, we have low packaging forces and low web/doc redaction forces!

This justified the move to KDE project, and indeed automated builds for Qt5/KF5 versions are now handled by Kubuntu-CI Team for Ubuntu (and sunab abandoned the effort to update his build bot for Qt5/KF5), but also Arch or Suse have automated builds for KDE Applications.
Actually 15.04.0 has been updated to 15.4.1 and even 15.4.2 should be out these days...

We should update the install info (website), and here again moving to KDE's wiki (open) is an attempt to get help from more people (as devs are not testing much packages but running builds of their own code).

Sorry for my outburst. I was super frustrated that morning, due to a myriad of issues.

In any case, from what I gather is that no one has the latest version, and thus no one is able to properly answer the question.

I have the last version now from the sunab svn repository. So I'm technically on 15.04.0. Now I hear that 15.04.2 should be out. How does one actually acquire this new version?

EDIT: Nevermind. I visited the link you provided, browsed to the stable repository, and added it the good old fashioned way. Also, there's updates to EVERYTHING kubuntu there. After an apt-get update, I had 225 packages to update.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, hopefully this information will become more generally available in the near future.

I have updated the https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Installation page to present some of this info.

Sunabs ppa is now back and offering the 15.04 version - https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/kdenlive-release

The previous release is here https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/u ... elease-old (0.9.10)

If you want the 15.04 version I would recommend the https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/kdenlive-release PPA rather than the kubuntu CI builds - because the Kubuntu-CI Team PPA has many other packages in it which will attempt to upgrade all sorts of things on your system - with the potential of breaking it.

Kubuntu-CI stable for example just recently broke the my whole desktop. Had to restore from a snapshot.

Hey all,

I've always loved Kdenlive's interface and that it's FOSS, but been frustrated by stability and rendering bugs. SO now I'm looking to help by testing and reporting bugs, but I have one question.

Are @Sunab's testing repositories still a valid way of running the current test code on a (K)ubuntu system? I ask as I just went to install it and noticed that apparently building kdenlive has failed since 21 weeks ago...

I recommend directly compiling from sources as described here: https://community.kde.org/Kdenlive/Development/KF5

You need to have a KDE 5-based distro, otherwise it'll be a mess. I've used Kubuntu 15.04 and 15.10 so far for compiling MLT, Kdenlive, and ffmpeg.

Is there any kind of script or anything to simplify this? I'll happily do an upgrade or run a script daily, but I'm not going through five pages of instructions daily...

I am on a KF 5 distro btw (Kubuntu 15.10)
