I just installed kdenlive in xubuntu 14.04LTS, but the help manual wasn't installed. If possible I would like to just install it and not all kubuntu documentation. Is there a way to do this? Also, I would like to download a pdf version of the manual to read. I couldn't find a pdf version. Is there a way to get it?

Any help is appreciated....

On https://docs.kde.org/index.php?language ... multimedia you will find a PDf of the Kdenlive Quick Start Guide

Well not really useful because that dates to 4 years ago and the manual has come a long way since then.
See https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual
It would be neat if someone could run the document generator over the manual as it now stands to create a pdf off i.t

Thanks to everybody who responded. I guess I have to give up on a pdf version of the kdenlive manual. However, I still haven't been able to get the kdenlive Help to work. When I select Help>Kdenlive Handbook I get "Documentation not Found". I have khelpcenter4 and kubuntu-docs both installed. I guess there must be another K????-doc package that needs installed, but I don't know what it is. Any help in getting kdenlive Help working is appreciated....

Yeah. I think that it has been broken for a long time. I have never had it work for the 5 or more years I have used Kdenlive. I don't think it would do much except take you to the manual at userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual . I had to come to terms with that.

In Kubuntu 14.10 + Kdenlive compiled from sources Help-Kdenlive Handbook works

Thanks ttguy and lueck for the responses. Now I know where things stand. I guess if I want Help to work I will have to either:
A. Learn how to compile and install kdenlive into xubuntu 14.04,
B. Wait for somebody to backport it to 14.04
C. Wait for about 3 years until I upgrade to the next LTS version of xubuntu.

It just takes me too long to upgrade to a new version of ubuntu/xubuntu to keep up with latest version. There are always too many bugs, missing features that have to be installed or worked around, etc. to upgrade any more quickly.
Edit1: NOTE: I did NOT manage to download the manual as I first said in the section below. I downloaded only the first level index. I think that something call robot.txt is preventing recursive crawling of the index links.
Edit: I did NOT mange to download the manual (for viewing off-line using a browser) using Terminal and the following commands (the first command merely sets the directory to the location where I want to save the manual):
Code: Select all
cd Documents/kdenlive
wget  \
     --verbose \
     --progress=bar \
     -e robots=off \
     --recursive \
     --page-requisites \
     --html-extension \
     --convert-links \
     --domains=userbase.kde.org,www.youtube.com \
     --include-directories=/Special:MyLanguage/,/Kdenlive/,/Manual/ \
         http://userbase.kde.org/Special:MyLanguage/Kdenlive/Manual/

Note: I also used this command to download the geeqie manual by changing the --domain line and the last line to point to the geeqie on-line manual.
Thanks again....

The way online manuals are structured these days do not really lend themselves to conversion to pdf. They do not read linearly.

I think one reason why the kdenlive handbook thing is so flaky is that very few people care. You are better off browsing or searching the on line manual. The handbook will be very out of date.

The help menu should have link to https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual but it doesnt. So that could be a feature request.
