Well I am in need of help.
I've used Kdenlive for over a year now. I got a new computer with some power to edit videos. A few weeks ago, I installed ubuntu 14.04 and kdenlive 9.10. Worked great. Thought I'd upgrade to Ubuntu 15.10 and the latest stable KDENlive. I could not get kdenlive to make titles without crashing, so I decided to downgrade since i have a project due tomorrow. Did a clean install of 14.04LTE and installed Kdenlive. The open button if pressed will crash the app. I can open existing projects by just double clicking on them, but if I try to save in any way, it crashes on the spot. Any suggestions? -GReg |

.kdenlive file formats got updated between 0.9.10 and the 15.n versions. 15.n version of kdnelive reads the old format but writes to the new format. New format is not readable by 0.9.10. This might be your issue if you saved .kdenlive project files while running ver 15.n and are now trying to open them in 0.9.10

It never gets to asking me for the file. As soon as I hit the open button, or select the open option from the pull down menu, or the save options, it crashes.
Never gets to asking me for the file name. I can drag and drop files, build a test video and hit save, and it will crash right then. No prompts. This was a clean install. Here is the error info: Executable: kdenlive PID: 2183 Signal: Segmentation fault (11) Time: 01/11/16 09:18:07 PM ---- Application: Kdenlive (kdenlive), signal: Segmentation fault Using host libthread_db library "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libthread_db.so.1". How did you go about downgrading? It is not a totally straight forward process.
Have a look notes here https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manua ... ab.27s_PPA |

Reformatted the drive. Did a clean reinstall ofubuntu 14.04lts.installed Kdenlive from the repository listed on the Kdenlive site. Copied my backup data back to my user directory.
The backup should contain only one 15.10 video file that was a du!my test one. |

Right. That is a pretty heavy duty backout strategy. You would expect that to work.
Which repository would that have been? There are a few different "kdenlive sites" kdenlive.org vs https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Installation https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/u ... elease-old maybe ? |

No, I used this one ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release
I'll try the other shortly. -GReg |

So you would have got 0.9.10-0ubuntu0~sunab~trusty1
That would be the one I would try for. Looks like https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/u ... elease-old gives you 0.9.8 version 0.9.8-1ubuntu1~sunab~trusty4 So I don't think that release-old will help much. Maybe you should try a "daily build" from http://builds.meltytech.com/ see https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manua ... d_Versions This is still pumping out 0.9.10 version of kdenlive. Be sure to use the one for the correct bitness of your system |

And it worked fine during the last instillation round, which was only a month ago, was also 9.10 and I installed UBUNTU from the same thumb drive.

The only thing I can think of, is that some sort of config file that Kdenlive does not like is coming across when I restore my data from a backup. Any suggestions for a list of what to make sure is gone?
I've cleared out .local and .config of clearly labeled KDENlive directories. -Greg |

No love from the older repositories.
This sucks. Did a clean install and can't get it to work like it did just a few weeks ago with the same clean install. -GReg |

KDE4 (and the KDE4 based kdenlive 0.9.10) uses ~/.kde/share/config/ and ~/.kde/share/apps/. Also, I'd suggest to create a fresh user account and try with that, this would show if the crash is related to the user's config files or not. Your problem looks more related to the KDE4 file dialog itself though. Does it work with other KDE4 applications? |

Well, that helps. A new acocunt it works in, so I cleared out the clearly labled kdenlife files/directories in the directories you suggested, but that did not help. It's clear it is something in this user directory, but I don't think either thing works. I may try clearing other things out in a ham-handed way.

deleted the contents of .kde and it works now.
It is the only kde program I use. -GReg |
