Hi I am trying to install 15.12.1 from PPA without luck.

I am using this ppa: ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release but it only contains 15.12.0. Does anyone know when 15.12.1 will be available?

Any hints?
Thanks.
/Greg

Not until that version is made available in a PPA. You could contact the ppa owner and see when they might build that version.

Hello,

For master branch (future 16.04), I just set up a team project on launchpad that should generate daily builds:
ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-master
For release branch (15.12.1+patches accumulating till 15.12.2), I uploaded some packages here:
ppa:vpinon/kdenlive-testing
I will probably move that work under the team home, but haven't had the time yet.

Please give feedback as I don't use ubuntu myself!

Popping in to share my experiences, using Kdenlive in Ubuntu Studio 15.10. It has version 15.08 installed, but by adding the sunab repositories to my software sources, I have been able to upgrade to Kdenlive 15.12.0. A great video editor, thanks for the hard work in making it available to the public.

Ubuntu (and Xubuntu) 15.10 seems to have better support for Kdenlive, than Linux Mint. In LM 17.3, I was only able to get version 09.10.0, even with the sunab repositories enabled. Regardless of whether I was using the Cinnamon or KDE version.

15.08 worked fine for the most part, but there were no icons. After upgrading to 15.12.0, and installing kde-runtime, all the icons are in their places. I could have lived without the icons, but the software is more interesting to work in, when it has all the buttons it's supposed to have.

I notice though, that Synaptic Package Manager says the version of kde-runtime is 15.08, is that something to worry about? The option Mark For Upgrade is greyed out, that is, not available.

Hello again.

Sorry for the late response.

Vincent, I added the testing repository you suggested. It seemingly does not install the latest version 15.12.1

Here is my output:

Preparing to unpack .../kdenlive_4%3a15.12.0+65-0ubuntu1~vpinon~wily1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking kdenlive (4:15.12.0+65-0ubuntu1~vpinon~wily1) over (4:15.12.0-0ubuntu0~sunab~wily1) ...

Just a bit of bonus information. I also tried:

sudo aptitude install kdenlive=4:15.12.1+10-0ubuntu1~vpinon~wily1

I got 16.01 working wtih the kdenlive-master PPA, and it seems it hasn't as much bugs as 15.12.0.

Code: Select all
****@HP-Pavilion-2:~$ sudo apt-cache policy kdenlive
kdenlive:
  Installed: 4:16.01.0+5675~2~ubuntu15.10.1
  Candidate: 4:16.01.0+5675~2~ubuntu15.10.1
  Version table:
 *** 4:16.01.0+5675~2~ubuntu15.10.1 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/kdenlive/kdenlive-master/ubuntu/ wily/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     4:15.08.2.1~really15.08.1-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://be.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ wily/universe i386 Packages

I had to install the package qml-module-qtquick-controls to get 16.01 running.

I upgraded to 15.12.0 because older versions didn't run and upgraded to 16.01 because 12.12.0 is so buggy.

Now (16.01) the transitions aren't duplicated any more (when moving then and re-opening the file) and the bezier curves effect works again, but it's not possible to disable the proxy files and the settings in the LMS white balance also aren't saved. Rendering also seems to be done with the proxy files. Probably these still work in 15.12.1, but I also can't get that version with the PPA.

While I understand developing software is difficult, it would be nice if there would be a bit more support on how to get a (release) version running on your computer instead of a new version with new features and bugs in some older features. I'm sorry, kdenlive is a great program but that way it will never attract serious users.

I'll second that. Not only does the PPA installation does not work, there are no .deb versions around and even compiling it from source is hell.
The programme is amazing; but if one can't even install it then there is no reason to bother :-/

Today with the new (?) version (4:16.01.0+5703~2~ubuntu15.10.1), the LMS white balance settings are saved (thanks) but the colour selector (with the droplet) doesn't work any more.

Update: the problem with the proxies doesn't happen with new projects. However, with older projects (loaded in 16.01) the box is just greyed out. As a test I changed the name of one of the proxies so kdenlive wouldn't recognise it. It gave an error on start up saying it would recreate the proxy, but this didn't change anything. (Update: solved!)
The x264 option also doesn't seem to work, it generates a file with the same name and codec.
BTW, is it useful to report bugs for the 16.01 version? (Edit: I will search a bit more)

Edit: I really appreciate all the volunteers work, kdenlive is a fantastic project, but I think the installation procedure of a recent, stable version is a bit too difficult for most people who just want to edit a video. Sorry for the critique, I really didn't want to discourage, but after a lot of non-working effects and stuff I just had to get it out. Back on topic now.

Hi all.

Thanks for the comments. The purpose of this thread was not to criticize the work done by volunteers, but rather to get some hints how to get a hold of the 15.12.1. :-)

Earlier I tried to compile it, but I did not succeed, because of random dependencies, so I gave it up.

I might try to compile it again, and I appreciate the work done by the Kdenlive team.

I will post my findings here. Please don't use this thread for bug reports. And yes, bug reports are normally always welcome, if you have searched the bug list in advance.

We could help building the package and maybe even adding it to a ppa. :-)

Thanks again.

Running Mint 17.3 when I try to add the kdenlive-master ppa I get

'This PPA does not support trusty'
Cannot add PPA: ''This PPA does not support trusty''.

Is there a solution for that?
Thank you!

Well, I thought I could install kdenlive 15.12.1 by downloading the deb files from the PPA: https://launchpad.net/~vpinon/+archive/ ... /+packages

I started to install the data deb and then the main kdenlive deb. I found some dependencies which I resolved, but I am stuck with the libqt5core5a (>= 5.5.0). I don't think this version is available for Kubuntu 15.10 Wily?

kdenlive depends on libqt5core5a (>= 5.5.0); however:
Version of libqt5core5a:amd64 on system is 5.3.0+dfsg-2ubuntu5.

sudo dpkg -i kdenlive_15.12.1+10-0ubuntu1-vpinon-wily1_amd64.deb
(Reading database ... 394559 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack kdenlive_15.12.1+10-0ubuntu1-vpinon-wily1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking kdenlive (4:15.12.1+10-0ubuntu1~vpinon~wily1) over (15.12.1-2) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of kdenlive:
kdenlive depends on libqt5core5a (>= 5.5.0); however:
Version of libqt5core5a:amd64 on system is 5.3.0+dfsg-2ubuntu5.

dpkg: error processing package kdenlive (--install):

Errors were encountered while processing:
kdenlive

And I am still stuck with 15.12.0.

Any hints? :-)

freeman: Mint is based on Ubuntu LTS (14.10), anterior to KF5 libs… So you can't install any recent version.
