I am working under OpenSuse, I upgraded my version to Leap 42.1 and the kdenlive project which works before the upgrade now shows VOB clips as INVALID.

I do not remember the previous kdenlive version but it was probably an old one...

Are all your ffmpeg (libav*) related packages coming from Packman?
Leap 42.1 does include ffmpeg, but only a "crippled" version that only contains support for free formats/codecs.

Make sure you added the Packman repo for Leap 42.1 (not 13.2 or whatever you used before), and do a full switch to it.
